Hi All

I’m pleased to post the decisions taken at tonight’s (6 December 2011) SSEC:WC members meeting.

1.     The meeting was attended by 19 Sealiners, including a number of guests that attended the Net casting Clinic that preceded the meeting. The Clinic was presented by one of our own boffins in this regard, Meesterbeer (Ruaan).  A number of guys brought their own nets and proceeded to practice what Ruaan preached. Well done and thanks a lot Ruaan. I reckon most of us learned a great deal from you tonight.

2.         Logistical arrangements: Sonwabi competition: 9-10 December 2011
2.1.      Venues:   Start: – Sonwabi parking lot.
Weigh in: - Sonwabi parking lot
2.2.      Fishing area: Sonwabi to Paaltjies.

2.3.      Competition Secretaries: jdereuck (Jean De Reuck) assisted by Seawiid ( Herman Wiid)

2.4.      Start and end times of competition: 20:00 (9 Dec 2011) to 08:00 (10 Dec 2011)
Issuing of score cards: 19:45-20:00 (Friday night, 9 Dec 2011).
Weigh-in: 06:15 final cut-off time.

2.5.     Confirmation of Arrangements. Program and Rules:
The Competition Secretaries will be responsible for the compilation of a report on the competition. The Club’s Marketing Officer, Rinex (Fabian) will post the report on Sealine. Persons taking photos should forward their photos to Rinex for inclusion in his final report.

All normal Club competition rules will apply.
Full Rules can be viewed on the SSEC:WC Announcements thread.

An entrance fee of R10,00 is payable by all members participating. Non-members (guests) do not pay any entrance fee and are not eligible for any prizes.

Additional bonus points for attendance:

Attendance of monthly Club competitions from start to finish (weigh-in) = 15 points

Partial attendance of monthly club competitions (by prior arrangement with Competition Secretary) = 10 points

Partial attendance of monthly Club competitions without prior arrangement with Competition Secretary = 5 points

Attendance (for at least 30 minutes) of Social after weigh-in = 15 points

NB: Should a participant not personally submit his score card at the weigh-in time, even with prior arrangement with the Competition Secretary, no points shall be awarded for his or her catches on the day.

Members who do not make the starting time (20:00) will have one hour grace until 21:00 to collect their Score Cards from the Competition Secretaries (Jean of Seawiid) wherever they might be. Late-comers can contact them on their Cell numbers (Jean- 0713554319 or Seawiid - 0833767306) to establish his whereabouts and to collect their Score Cards from him BEFORE the expiry of the one hour grace period. Please note that they WILL NOT issue Score cards to members who do not meet the final cut-off time (21:00). Any members who do not meet this grace period shall be disqualified from the competition. They may, however, participate in the day’s fishing on a non-competitive basis and attend the weigh-in/ social event, thus earning 15 points for attending the Social event.

In line with a recent Management Committee decision only paid-up members who have updated their particulars with the Treasurer, Mobi Dick (Nico) will be allowed to compete.
It was also decided that members should have their valid fishing permits in their possession and show it to the Competition Secretaries before a score card may be issued to them.

2.6.     After party:  Breakfast at venue of weigh-in.

3.        Raffle: The raffle of the 4’ Cast net was well supported and eventually won by Kaspaas. Congratulations to him.

4.            New members: Chris van Niekerk (Chrisvn) decided to re-join the Club and Joseph Sieli (Josey Whales) liked the crazy bunch so much that he decided to also join the Club. A hearty welcome to both gentleman.

5.         Next competition dates:
* 16 December 2011 (SAPS’ annual comp) SSEC:WC supports this event and all Members who participate in this competition will earn 100 SSEC:WC Bonus points.

* 9-10 March 2012 – Struisbaai

6.  Short clinics/presentations at monthly meetings: The next mini clinic will take place during February 2012.

7.     Feedback: Die Dam competition. It was again a great success, notwithstanding fairly strong winds that hampered fishing.

8.     The Club currently meet at Tony’s Pub at the Northerns Rugby Club. Although the facility will serve as base for the Club in the interim, the Club’s goal is to eventually have its own Clubhouse. Such venue should preferably be as central as possible, say in the Goodwood/Parow and surrounding areas. Members are urged to assist the Management Committee in finding alternative more permanent accommodation.

9.    The meeting adjourned at about 20:45

2.         Logistical arrangements: Langebaan competition: 18 February 2012

Weigh-in: 15:30 final cut-off time.

Members who do not make the starting time (07:00) will have one hour grace until 08:00 to collect their Score Cards from the Competition Secretaries (Jean or Carol) wherever they might be. Late-comers can contact them on Jean’s Cell number (0713554319) to establish their whereabouts and to collect their Score Cards from them BEFORE the expiry of the one hour grace period. Please note that they WILL NOT issue Score cards to members who do not meet the final cut-off time (08:00). Any members who do not meet this grace period shall be disqualified from the competition. They may, however, participate in the day’s fishing on a non-competitive basis and attend the weigh-in/ social event, thus earning 15 points for attending the Social event.

It appears that several members’ details have not been updated recently and all members are urged to submit their latest e-mail address, cell phone number and Angling Permit details to Mobi Dick (Nico).

It was also decided that members should have their valid fishing permits in their possession and show it to the Competition Secretaries before a score card may be issued to them.

2.6.     After party: None. Only weigh-in event.

3.        New members: Cptfly (Johan Brink) recently joined the Club. Johan, you are most welcome.

4.         Feedback-  recent Open Kob Comp.

It was generally agreed that this competition exceeded all expectations, with more than 300 anglers competing. It is obvious that the cash prizes were a great draw card.
The intensive marketing and advertising prior to the competition also contributed to the event’s success, while special mention was also made of the design quality of the Competition Poster. Well done Jo-Jo (Frederick Isaacks) our very own Graphic Designer.

Although anglers could register at several tackle shops prior to the competition, a large number registered at the venue immediately before the start of the competition. The selling of the tickets at the event as well as the handling of the money will be reviewed by the Management Committee. The Committee will also review the procedure of the Lucky Draws at the prize giving.

Kaspaas will investigate the possibility of having food stalls at the venue (after the competition).

The Management Committee will investigate the possibility of an alternative venue for the start and weigh-in for future Kob and Galjoen competitions.

5.         Financial report: The Club’ financial position is sound. The Club’s current bank balance stands at R43 451,00.

6.         Next competition dates:

* 9-10 March 2012 – Struisbaai Five species competition
The Club will enter four teams consisting of six competitors each. Members will pay for their accommodation, while the Club will pay their registration costs.
Competition shirts cost R140 plus VAT which is also for members’ own account.
The suppliers, Titan Marketing, will sponsor the embroidery on the shirts.

*  April 2012-  Cape Point. Exact date and location to be confirmed.

* August 2012 Annual SSEC:WC Open Galjoen Competition. Exact date and location to be confirmed.

7.  Short clinics/presentations at monthly meetings: The next mini clinic will take place during April 2012 and will cover the various knot.

8.     The Club met for the first time at Hamiltons Rugby Club, Green Point. The members were happy with the venue and future meetings will be held at this venue until such time as better or permanent Club facilities are available.

9.      Junior category during Monthly competitions. SSEC:WC members under 16 years of age may compete in a junior category during Club competitions. Such members have to, however, always be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

10.       The Club has obtained approval from Sealine Admin to have its own team colours. We will retain blue as colour but will obtain design and price quotations from a number of suppliers. This includes shirts and splash jackets.

The meeting adjourned at about 21:15

Hi All

I’m pleased to post the decisions taken at last night’s (18 April 2012) SSEC:WC members meeting.

1.     The meeting was attended by 14 members, plus our newest member, Stinkmossel (Rean Rademeyer). Baie welkom Stinkies!! Two guests also attended. They are considering joining the Club.
The meeting was preceded with a series of fishermen’s knots demonstrations by Marthin, Stinkmossel and Kaspaas. Marthin undertook the bulk of the demonstrations on how to join lines, braids, traces and hooks. Stinkmossel deftly demonstrated how to make the Spider Hitch and Bimini knot, while Kaspaas demonstrated the lesser known Aussie Plait which is another alternative to the more difficult Bimini knot.

2.         Logistical arrangements: Cape Point Reserve competition: 21 April 2012
2.1.      Venues:   Start: – Inside Main Gates to Reserve.
Weigh in: - Buffelsbaai picnic/parking area.
2.2.      Fishing area: Whole of Cape Point Reserve.

2.3.      Competition Secretaries: jdereuck (Jean De Reuck) assisted by Dreamer (Carol De Reuck).

2.4.      Start and end times of competition: 07:00 to 14:30
Issuing of score cards: 06:30 to 07:00
Weigh-in: 15:00 final cut-off time.

An entrance fee of R20,00 is payable by all members participating. Non-members (guests) do not pay an entrance fee as they are not eligible for any prizes.
There will not be a specific Junior Category during this competition. It was, however, decided that whenever three or more juniors participate during a monthly Club event, a single prize will be awarded to the winning Junior. Otherwise Juniors compete for the same prizes as the Senior members.

Members who do not make the starting time (07:00) will have one hour grace until 08:00 to collect their Score Cards from the Competition Secretaries (Jean or Carol) or from Marthin, wherever they might be. Late-comers can collect their Score Cards from them BEFORE the expiry of the one hour grace period. Unfortunately there is no cell phone reception in most parts of the Reserve. Members are therefore urged to try to be on time for the start of the event.

It appears that several members’ details have not been updated recently and all members are urged to submit their latest e-mail address, cell phone number and Angling Permit details to Mobi Dick (Nico).

NB: It was previously decided that members should have their valid fishing permits in their possession and show it to the Competition Secretaries before a score card may be issued to them.

2.6.     After party: At Buffelsbaai after the weigh-in.

3.        New members: Stinkmossel (Rean Rademeyer) joined the Club at the meeting. Rean, you are most welcome.

4.         Financial report: The Treasurer (Mobi Dick) unfortunately could not attend the meeting to report on the Club’s current financial status. The Chairman confirmed, however, that the Club’ financial position is very sound.

5.         Recent Struisbaai Five Species comp: Mobi Dick will send an e-mail to members that attended the Struisbaai competition regarding payment of the R130 for their events shirts. Payments should be done electronically.

6.         Annual Open Galjoen Competition, 28 July 2012:
Fishing area: Ganzekraal (West Coast) to Hermanus (Lagoon mouth)
Venue for selling tickets on the day as well as for the weigh-in: Strandfontein Pavillion.
Tickets will cost R50 if bought before the event. Tickets will, however, be available on the day of the event but at R100 per entry.
It was decided that members should each try to personally sell at least five tickets. This should not be difficult as some members sold up to 26 tickets for the recent Kob competition.

7.        Next competition dates:
19     May 2012 – West Coast – Die Kombuis (Blaauwberg) to Koeberg fence.
June 2012-  Date and venue to be confirmed.
28     July 2012 – Annual Open Galjoen Competition

8.  Short clinics/presentations at monthly meetings: The next mini clinic will take place at the May 2012 meeting and will cover the effects of wind on fishing.

9.       The Club has obtained approval from Sealine Admin to have its own team colours. We will retain blue as colour but will obtain design and price quotations from a number of suppliers. This includes shirts, hats and splash jackets.  Marthin will source samples and possibly quotations by the next meeting. Other members who might have access to suppliers are invited to also make suggestions.

10.       It was suggested that members invite fellow members to join them during normal non-competition fishing outings. A contact list of all members was circulated recently. An invitation can also be posted on the SSEC:WC sub-forum.

11.       Request for assistance by Toyota (Ottery) dealer: The Club was approached for assistance with the holding of an angling competition.  Although the Management Committee decided not to get directly involved, the person was advised on the rules and arrangements of a typical angling competition.

12.   Members who need work done on their fishing rods (repairs/modifications) may contact Mangi. He has indicated that he will offer special discount tarrifs for SSEC:WC Club Members.

The meeting adjourned at about 21:15

Club Secretary

Hi All

I’m pleased to post the decisions taken at Tuesday night’s (15 May 2012) SSEC: WC members meeting.

1.     The meeting was attended by 14 club members (One who joined on Monday) 5 Sealiners and 3 guests. The clinic regarding the effects of wind on water and fishing was mainly discussed by Rinex, Extremist and Stinkmossel while the others participated with inputs of their experiences in this regard. All in all a very informative session if attention was paid to what was said.

2.      The raffle draw was then held for the Galjoen Tackle Starter Pack which was won by Outerpool (Allan Schapiro) with ticket no 4. Congratulations Allan.

NB NB: This weekend’s competition was originally planned for the West Coast, but due to the weather outlook it is has been changed to False Bay as conditions will not be conducive to fishing the West Coast.

3.         Logistical arrangements: False Bay Competition: 19 May 2012
3.1.      Venues:   Start: – Strandfontein Pavillion Parking Area
Weigh in: - Strandfontein Pavillion Parking Area
3.2.      Fishing area: Bailey’s Cottage to Macassar Fence

3.3.      Competition Secretaries: Extremist (Faheem Adams) assisted by Stinkmossel (Rean Rademeyer)

3.4.      Start and end times of competition: 07:30 to 15:00
Issuing of score cards: 07:00 to 07:30
Weigh-in: 15:30 final cut-off time.

An entrance fee of R20,00 is payable by all members participating.

Members who do not make the starting time (07:30) will have one hour grace until 08:30 to collect their Score Cards from the Competition Secretaries (Faheem or Rean) wherever they might be. Late-comers can contact them on their Cell numbers (Faheem 083 400 5170 or Rean 084 471 1615) to establish their whereabouts and to collect their Score Cards from them BEFORE the expiry of the one hour grace period. Please note that they WILL NOT issue score cards to members who do not meet the final cut-off time (08:30).

3.6.     After party:  Braai at Strandfontein Pavillion. Own meat and drinks.

4.        New members: Bradley Chetty (Chocy) who joined on Monday as well as Chris Gerber (Maaknlas) and Chris Laing (Skurf) who committed to join the club on Wednesday, which they did. A hearty welcome to all of you.

5.         Next competition dates:

16 June 2012 – Area to be determined at the meeting before the competition

No official club competition to be held July as we are hosting the SSEC: WC Open Galjoen Derby on the 28th of July

18 August 2012 – Area to be determined at the meeting before the competition.

Weekend of 22 September 2012 participation in the Witsand Skins. Anyone interested in joining should start making arrangements for accommodation now already.

6.  Short clinics/presentations at monthly meetings: The next mini clinic will take place at the pre- completion meeting for 16 June and will be Water Reading with Raymond de Bruyn.

7.     Feedback: Cape Point competition. A beautiful day with no fish, but the after party made up for the bad fishing.

8.     Open Galjoen Derby on 28 July 2012 – It was decided that the official launch of the Derby will be on 15 June 2012. In the meantime subtle hints & references to the competition can be made in posts on Sealine to raise awareness of the Derby. Posters must be put up at as many tackle shops as possible and some flyers must also be left with them. Each member must also promote the Derby and even distribute some flyers in the areas that they are fishing. A “sticky” in respect of the event will be placed on Sealine.

Although it was mentioned that all members must at least sell 5 tickets each it was requested that this matter be carefully thought through as many members are not actively involved in the club and giving tickets to them to sell will lead to printing costs while the tickets will in all likelihood not be sold.

It was also discussed if it will be required from somebody staying in Hermanus to come to Cape Town the morning of the Derby to collect their ticket and to then maybe drive all the way back due to the size of the area. A proposal was made that in such cases the ticket can be scanned and e-mailed so that the participant can print it without having to come and collect it.

9.     Financial Report – The Treasurer indicated that due to work commitments it was not possible for him to do proper record keeping over the past month, but that he would finalize the report and e-mail it to all members by Wednesday, 23 May 2012

10.    Proposed new Club colours. Marthin could not attend the meeting due to work commitments so this matter stands over until he can provide feedback / quotations.

11.    The request for assistance from the Toyota dealer was complied with by providing him with guidelines of how a competition should be organized with copies of rules and other information. No response or feedback has however been received from him in this regard. A request was made to Rinex to just forward the e-mail sent to the dealer to Emperor as confirmation that we did respond to his request.

12.     The meeting adjourned at about 20:30

Mobi Dick
Acting Club Secretary
