Hi all SSEC:WC members

It is important that all members take note of the following decisions taken at an Executive Committee meeting that took place on Tuesday, 26 July 2011:

DECISIONS TAKEN AT THE SSEC:WC EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING ON

TUESDAY, 26 JULY 2011

The following decisions were taken at the Executive Committee meeting on 26 July 2011:

1.             Roles and responsibilities of various Committee members.
The powers and duties of the various Committee members are spelt out in Clauses 9 to 10.8 of the Club’s Constitution. The Marketing Officer is, however a new portfolio in the Committee and his responsibilities had to be finalised. It was resolved that the Chairman will still handle all official announcements, press releases and communication with the media and other parties. In his absence this function will be dealt with the Secretary or the Vice-Chairman. The Marketing Officer’s main function is to promote the Club’s general image and its events. This may be done through media liaison, general marketing and negotiating with possible sponsors of the Club’s events and activities. The Marketing Officer will also be responsible for the Club’s competition reports, with the assistance of the Competition Secretaries.
The Constitution will be amended accordingly.

2.             A decision taken during a previous general members meeting, that a fee of R10 would be payable by all members participating in the Club’s monthly Club competitions, was confirmed.

3.             It was decided that non-members fishing during the Club’s monthly competitions will be deemed being guests. They will not pay the competition fee and will therefore not qualify for any prizes or awards.

4.             Competition prizes: Prizes will be awarded during monthly competitions. These prizes would, however, be kept small. When no prizes are sponsored by outsiders, the Club will sponsor Vouchers to the amount of R150, R100 and R50 for the first three winners, from the Club’s own funds.

5.             It was decided that the annual Club winners would over and above the floating trophies, in future also receive small trophies that they may keep. This will only apply with effect from the 2011/2012 annual awards.

6.             Bonus days are brought back. A new Annual Bonus Day competition award will also be established. All Bonus Days scores would count towards this special Annual Bonus Day award. Members may, however, nominate four bonus days to be also counted towards specific months’ competitions. Members wishing to have a specific Bonus Day’s scores to also count towards a specific month’s competition, have to formally nominate it when they ask the Score Keeper for the specific Bonus Day number. This takes effect from the August 2011.

7.             The following changes were made to the existing Fish Species points scoring system:

7.1.       Notwithstanding the current official legal minimum size allowed for White Stumpnose, the Club’s minimum legal size for White Stumpnose has been changed from 25 cm to 30 cm. This implies that only fish from 30 cm and above (for this species) would qualify for points, both during Bonus days and monthly Club competitions.

7.2.       Additional bonus points will be scored for the following fish species:

Musselcracker (any species) above 60 cm (released) = additional 100 bonus points
White Steenbras above 80 cm (released) = additional 100 bonus points
Cob above 100 cm (released) = 100 bonus points
Galjoen above 50 cm (released) = 100 additional bonus points

7.3.             A points scoring system has been put in effect in terms of which the two official SSEC:WC teams (sponsored by the Club) would be selected for participation in the 2012 Stilbaai Galjoen Derby. This is in line with a decision taken during the recent AGM. Please note that these points will only count towards the short listing of these teams and will not apply to any other Club competitions or awards.

Attending Club meetings = 10 bonus points
Attending monthly Club competitions = 10 points
Attending any other Club events or activities = 20 points

The members on this short list's standing on the Club's score board will then be used to select the eventual teams, should the number of available members on the short list be more than required for two teams.

7.4.             The existing bonus points system (for attending Club competitions) has also been amended as follows:

Attendance of monthly Club competitions from start to finish (weigh-in) = 15 points
Partial attendance of monthly club competitions (by prior arrangement with Competition Secretary) = 10 points
Partial attendance of monthly Club competitions without prior arrangement with Competition Secretary = 5 points
Attendance (for at least 30 minutes) of Social after weigh-in = 15 points

These changes are to persuade members to attend events, even if they cannot be there for the full duration of the event. It also implies that a member that leaves the competition without handing in his score card (without prior arrangement with the Competition Secretary) will still earn 5 points. The existing ruling was that such participant would have been disqualified and would not have earned any points.
It should be made clear that should a participant not submit his score card at the weigh-in time, even with prior arrangement with the Competition Secretary, no points shall be awarded for his or her catches on the day.

To promote catch and release it was further agreed that the existing points (10) earned for releasing a legal catch would be increased to 20 points, over and above the points earned for the cms larger than the minimum legal size as indicated in Annexure 3 of the Constitution, Rules and Fish Species list. Catches that are not released shall still only earn 10 points.

8.                   It was decided that the dates for the Club’s monthly competitions would be announced at least two months in advance.

9.                   With effect from August 2011 two Competition Secretaries will be appointed for monthly Club competitions. It will be expected of these officials to issue score cards, receive members’ entry fees, ensure that all participants are familiar with the competition rules and logistical arrangements and monitor attendance for purposes of the points scored as indicated in item 7 above. They will also be responsible to provide an input to the Club’s Marketing officer for the latter’s official report, as well as to ensure that the scores and score cards/sheets are submitted to the Club’s Score Keeper.

10.               It was decided that the Club’s geographic area for competitions would remain unchanged as indicated in Clause 7.1. of the Club’s Competition Rules. This is from Dwarskersbos to Cape Agulhas.

11.               The Club will host two open competitions per year. These events do not include any Clinics. A open (all night) Cob competition will be hosted during February 2012 and a open Galjoen/Steenbras competition will be hosted during July 2012. It is envisaged that these competitions would become major annual events. The exact dates will still be announced.

12.               An annual Family day will be arranged at either Langebaan or at a fresh water venue such as Sandvlei. The matter is still being researched and further announcements will be made in this regard.

13.               It has been established that the Club’s existing Members data base is outdated. A new Club year has also started on 1 July 2011. It has therefore been decided that all Club members should fully complete the Membership Application form (attached to post 16 on this thread) and return to the Treasurer, Mobi Dick at his e-mail address (nico.fourie@dpw.gov.za) BEFORE the next Club competition. This includes details of members’ Fishing Perrmits. Any Club member whose forms have not been submitted to the Treasurer before the next Club competition will not be awarded any points for either Bonus days or monthly competitions.

Members will in future also be expected to immediately inform the Treasurer of the particulars of renewed Fishing Permits. Any member who fails to do so will not be awarded any bonus points or competition points. Similarly, any member who is in arrears with his/her annual membership fees will not be awarded any bonus or competition points. An exception will be made for the recent July Club competition.
These rulings are in fact in line with the conditions of the Club’s Constitution and Rules as well as decisions taken during previous Club meetings.

14.               It was decided that the Club’s funds will be invested in the best possible interest bearing bank account.

15.               To bolster Club funds, it was decided that regular raffles will be held throughout the year. These raffles would not be expensive and would in some cases be linked to selected charity causes.

16.               It was further decided that the Club would on occasion arrange special so-called “outreach” events, such as to take the children of a Children’s Home for a fishing outing. These events would be discussed and finalised during normal Club meetings so as to involve all members.

All the decisions will take effect immediately, except where otherwise indicated. The relevant amendments will be made to the Constitution and Club Rules and published on the Club’s Announcements thread.

Club Secretary

ANNUAL GENERAL MEMBERS MEETING: SSEC:WC

Hi SSEC:WC Members

Please take note of the Club's monthly Members meeting on Tuesday, 16 August 2011. The meeting will include preparations for the Club’s monthly competition on 20 August 2011.

Date: Tuesday 16 August 2011
Time: 19H00 (Executive members meet at 18:30)
Venue: The Polo & Hunt Club, Durbanville

All new and prospective members are most welcome.

Indien u enige items wil byvoeg, pm my asseblief.

Hi All

I’m pleased to post the decisions taken at last night’s (17 May 2011) SSEC:WC members meeting. Apologies for not being able to do it earlier. It was due to Sealine being off air for a day.

1.        The meeting was unfortunately poorly represented as only 10 members, including a new member, J de Reuck and his better half (Oops, forgot her name!) attended.

2.        Logistical arrangements: Betties Bay monthly Club competition – 20 August 2011

2.1.     Venues: Start: – Gordons Bay BP (Cnr Gordons Bay Drive and Beach Rd)
Weigh in: - Kogelbaai ate Ronde Klippe (Jo-Jo will post a Google map of the location)

2.2.     Competition Secretaries: Strepie (Ruaan) assisted by Seawiid (Herman)

2.3.       Start and end times of competition:
             Issuing of score cards: 06:00 – 06:30
Weigh-in: 15:00 (All catches and score cards to be at Weigh-in venue BEFORE 15:00) Weigh-in starts 15:00 sharp. Any latecomers will be disqualified.

2.4.       Confirmation of Arrangements. Program and Rules:
The Competition Secretaries will be responsible for the compilation of a report on the competition and submit to the Club’s Marketing Officer, Rinex (Fabian). Persons taking photos should forward their photos to Rinex for inclusion in his final report.

All normal Club competition rules will apply.
Full Rules can be viewed on the SSEC:WC Announcements thread.

An entrance fee of R10,00 is payable by all members participating. Non-members (guests) do not pay any entrance fee and are not eligible for any prizes.

Additional bonus points for attendance:

Attendance of monthly Club competitions from start to finish (weigh-in) = 15 points

Partial attendance of monthly club competitions (by prior arrangement with Competition Secretary) = 10 points

Partial attendance of monthly Club competitions without prior arrangement with Competition Secretary = 5 points

Attendance (for at least 30 minutes) of Social after weigh-in = 15 points

NB: Should a participant not personally submit his score card at the weigh-in time, even with prior arrangement with the Competition Secretary, no points shall be awarded for his or her catches on the day.

Members who do not make the starting time (06:30) will have one hour grace until 07:30 to collect their Score Cards from the Competition Secretary, Strepie (Ruaan) wherever he might be. Late-comers can contact him on his Cell (082 eight207 58three) to establish his whereabouts and to collect their Score Cards from him BEFORE the expiry of the one hour grace period. Please note that he WILL NOT issue Score cards to members who do not meet the final cut-off time (07:30). Any members who do not meet this grace period shall be disqualified from the competition. They may, however, participate in the day’s fishing on a non-competitive basis and attend the weigh-in/ social event, thus earning 15 points for attending the Social event.

In line with a recent Management Committee decision only paid-up members who have updated their particulars with the Treasurer, Mobi Dick (Nico) will be allowed to compete. Mobi Dick will provide a list of paid-up and updated members to the Competition Secretaries.

2.5. After party: Weather permitting, the after weigh-in social (bring and braai) will take place at the weigh-in venue.

3.             Year-end function: Two provisional dates were set, depending on the availability of the Hunt & Polo Club’s facilities. These are 17 and 24 September 2011. The preferred date is 24 September with the next club comp date being 17 September 2011. These dates may, however change around depending on the availability of the Hunt & Polo Club on 24 September 2011. It was decided that the Management Committee will meet to discuss and plan the Year-end function and report back to members.

4.       Next competition dates:
·         17 or 24 September 2011 (Tweede baai, Monwabisi)
·         21 October 2011 (All night competition – False Bay – specific area to be confirmed)

5.  Short clinics/presentations at monthly meetings: It was decided that short clinics/presentations will be offered at future monthly Club meetings on a variety of subjects. The Management Committee will arrange these presentations. These presentations would be open to all interested persons.

6.   Recent Club comp at Cape Point and RASSPL comp – feedback: Notwithstanding the relatively bad weather and resultant poor fishing it was generally agreed that both events were a great success. Especially the social event at the Cape Point competition was viewed as one of the best Club social events of the year.

7.   New members – One new member attended the meeting. A hearty welcome to Jean (JdeReuck) and his pretty wife that accompanied him to the meeting.

8.       The meeting adjourned at about 21:00

Hi SSEC:WC Members and other interested anglers

This serves to remind you of the Club's monthly Members meeting and Mini Casting Clinic on Tuesday, 11 October 2011. The meeting will include preparations for the Club’s monthly competition on 15 October 2011 at Langebaan.

Date: Tuesday 11 October 2011
Time: 19H00 (Mini Clinic starts at 18:00)
Venue: The Polo & Hunt Club, Durbanville

Hi All

I’m pleased to post the decisions taken at last night’s (11 October 2011) SSEC:WC members meeting, which included the arrangements for this Saturday's Club comp at Langebaan.

1.            The meeting was well attended with some 30 members, including a number of guests that attended the Casting Clinic that preceded the meeting. As indicated the meeting was preceded by a Mini Casting Clinic. The demonstration was done by one of our most proficient WP League anglers, Henning Venter, who showed us just why he is such an effective angler. He introduced his demonstration with a very down to earth talk on his preferred casting technique, the pendulum cast, after which it was oohs and aahs as he proceeded to illustrated his technique by repeatedly casting his sinker over the whole of the Hunt & Polo Club’s very large grounds. After his demonstrations he fielded a number of questions, after which he assisted a number of guys that had brought their own tackle. More than one declared afterwards that their casting distance had improved by at least 20 meters within only a couple of casts with his assistance. Well done and thanks a lot Henning. I reckon all of us learned something new.

2.          Logistical arrangements: Langebaan Club competition – 15 October 2011
2.1.       Venues:  Start: – Total Garage inside Langebaan
Weigh in: - Vacant plot opposite Spar, Langebaan

2.2.       Fishing area: We will decide on the specific area when we meet in the morning.

2.3.     Competition Secretaries: Jazz (Francois Adams) assisted by Jo-Jo (Frederick Isaacs)

2.4.       Start and end times of competition:
Issuing of score cards: 06:00 – 06:30
Weigh-in: Competition ends 15:00 (All catches and score cards to be at Weigh-in venue BEFORE 15:30 Weigh-in starts 15:30 sharp. Any latecomers will be disqualified.

2.5. Confirmation of Arrangements. Program and Rules:
The Competition Secretaries will be responsible for the compilation of a report on the competition. The Club’s Marketing Officer, Rinex (Fabian) will post the report on Sealine.

It was decided that we would try to fish as a group.

Members who do not make the starting time (06:30) will have one hour grace until 07:30 to collect their Score Cards from the Competition Secretary (Jazz) wherever he might be. Late-comers can contact him on his Cell (079 506 9767) to establish his whereabouts and to collect their Score Cards from him BEFORE the expiry of the one hour grace period.

It was also decided that members should have their valid fishing permits in their possession and show it to the Competition Secretaries before a score card may be issued to them.

2.6.         After party: Due to the distance no formal after party will be held.

3.             Raffle: The raffle of the Battery operated Live Well was well supported and eventually won by Jaco Goodwin (Hippo). Congratulations to him.

4.             Next competition dates:
* 19 November 2011 (Die Dam, Pearly Beach)
Members can contact Verna at the Die Dam Resort at 028 4821710 for accommodation.
* 10 December 2011 (False Bay – specific area to be confirmed)
* 16 December 2011 (SAPS’ annual comp) SSEC:WC supports this event and all Members who participate in this competition will earn 100 SSEC:WC Bonus points.
*  Events in 2012. It was decided that we would only commit to competition dates two months in advance. Cognisance was however taken of a number of regular competitions in which the Club’s members normally compete.

5.             Short clinics/presentations at monthly meetings: The next clinic/presentation will cover the servicing and maintenance of reels. Old Salt has agreed to do the honours. The presentation will again be open to all interested persons. Members are invited to bring along their reels that require servicing.
It is anticipated that the Club will present a Clinic on Cast Netting at the Club’s December meeting.

6.             Feedback: Year end function, recent Club comp at Tweedebaai and RASSPL comps – The Year end function was yet again a great success. It is clear that the Club’s members have become almost like a family. The monthly comp was also a great success. Special mention was made of Faheem’s monster Cob. There were mixed successes for Club members at the recent RASSPL comp.

7.             The Club will most probably not be able to meet at the Hunt & Polo Club anymore. Members are urged to look for alternative venues. The Club’s goal is to eventually have its own Clubhouse. Such venue should preferably be as central as possible, say in the Goodwood/Parow and surrounding areas.

8.             It was decided that the Club will not hold its own future Club competitions on the same dates as RASSPL competitions as the two competitions are too different in nature.

9.             Meesterbeer (Ruan Burger) generously donated a hamper full of wind-on leaders of various diameters. Members who are interested in purchasing his tried and tested wind-on’s are welcome to contact him by pm, e-mail (meesterbeer1989@gmail.com) of cell phone (083 535 0441).

10.          The meeting adjourned at about 21:00

Hi All

I’m pleased to post the decisions taken at last night’s (8 November 2011) SSEC:WC members meeting.

1.     The meeting was attended by 18 Sealiners, including a number of guests that attended the Reel Servicing and Maintenance Presentation that preceded the meeting. The presentation was done by one of our most knowledgeable reel experts, Old Salt (Jonathan), who addressed all facets of reel care and the servicing thereof. In the process he also addressed a number of dos and don’ts of reel treatment, types of oil and reel grease and even the possible upgrades and/or improvements that can be affected to any standard reel.
A number of guys brought their reels for him for servicing and/or upgrading of internal parts. Well done and thanks a lot Jonathan. I reckon all of us learned a great deal from you last night.

2.         Logistical arrangements: Die Dam competition: 18-19 November 2011
2.1.      Venues:   Start: – Die Dam and at Pearly Beach Club (for anglers not staying at Die Dam)
                            Weigh in: - Die Dam
2.2.      Fishing area: Uilkraal to Rietfontein.

2.3.      Competition Secretaries: Craig Myburg assisted by Meesterbeer (Ruaan Burger)

2.4.       Start and end times of competition:

Weigh-in: Competition ends same time as RASSPL. Time to be confirmed.
SSEC:WC Weigh-in starts 20:00 at Die Dam or at venue of After Party. Exact venue to be confirmed on the day of competition.
SSEC:WC members are urged to all compete in the RASSPL competition also.

2.5.     Confirmation of Arrangements. Program and Rules:
The Competition Secretaries will be responsible for the compilation of a report on the competition. The Club’s Marketing Officer, Rinex (Fabian) will post the report on Sealine.

The points scored for White Stumpnose has been amended. With immediate effect all White Stumpnose between 25cm and 30 cm (30 cm excluded) shall be awarded 10 points if released. White Stumpnose of 30 cm and above will score as per the existing points tables.

Members who do not make the starting time (22:00-22:30) will have one hour grace until 23:30 to collect their Score Cards from the Competition Secretaries (Craig or Meesterbeer) wherever they might be. Late-comers can contact them on their Cell numbers (Craig- 0823352561 or Meesterbeer - 0797273243) to establish his whereabouts and to collect their Score Cards from him BEFORE the expiry of the one hour grace period. Please note that they WILL NOT issue Score cards to members who do not meet the final cut-off time (23:30).

It was also decided that members should have their valid fishing permits in their possession and show it to the Competition Secretaries before a score card may be issued to them.

2.6.     After party: Arrangements to be made later at the venue.

3.        Raffle: The raffle of the Wind-on Hamper and  Reel Service Voucher was well supported and eventually won by Brett Jacobs. Congratulations to him.

4.         Next competition dates:

* 16 December 2011 (SAPS’ annual comp) SSEC:WC supports this event and all Members who participate in this competition will earn 100 SSEC:WC Bonus points.
*  January 2012 West Coast. Exact date and location to be confirmed.
* 3-4 February 2012 Annual SSEC:WC Open Cob Competition. False Bay

5.      Short clinics/presentations at monthly meetings: The next clinic/presentation will be on Cast Netting. The presentation will again be open to all interested persons. Members are invited to bring along their own cast nets for practice.

6.       Feedback: Langebaan competition. It was again a great success. Several White Stumpnose were caught and some anglers caught fish up to five minutes before the lines-up time.

7.     The Club met for the first time at Tony’s Pub at the Northerns Rugby Club. The Management members of the Rugby Club were very accommodating and we quickly felt at home. They even at short notice moved their Management Committee meeting to another venue, so as to make available their Board Room for our purposes. Although the facility will serve as base for the Club in the interim, the Club’s goal is to eventually have its own Clubhouse. Such venue should preferably be as central as possible, say in the Goodwood/Parow and surrounding areas.

8.    Junior Development initiative – It was decided that the Club will contribute R500 towards the Kleinzee Angling Club’s initiative.

9.    The meeting adjourned at about 21:30
