 Hi All

I’m pleased to post the decisions taken at last night’s (5 April 2011) SSEC:WC members meeting.

1.        The meeting was attended by 10 existing members, 2 new members and 1 guest.

2.        Logistical arrangements: Competition 9 April 2011– Pearly Beach

2.1.     Fishing area: From Rietfontein (East of Pearly Beach) to Gansbaai (West of Pearly Beach)

2.2.     Competition Secretary: Extremist (F Adams) has been appointed for this competition.

2.3.     Start and end times of competition:
Start: Handing out of score cards 05:30 – 06:00 where after the competition starts at 06:00
End: Competition ends at 18:00 and score cards will be handed in at 19:00.

2.4.     Venue for issuing Score Cards: Pearly Beach Angling Club.
Return of Score Cards: Pearly Beach Angling Club at 19:00. Please note that there is an hour grace between the end of the competition and the handing in of the score cards. This is not to fish after 18:00, but to prepare to hand in the score cards at 19:00 and to have the social directly afterwards.

NOTE: Members who do not make the starting time (06:00) will have grace until 07:00 to collect their Score Cards from the Competition Secretary, wherever he might be. Late-comers can contact him on his Cell (083 400 5170) to establish his whereabouts and to collect their Score cards BEFORE 07:00 from him. Please note that he WILL NOT issue Score cards to members who do not meet the final cut-off time of 07:00. Any members who do not meet this grace period shall be disqualified from the competition. They may, however, participate in the day’s fishing on a non-competitive basis and attend the weigh-in/ social event, thus earning 15 points for attending the Social event.

2.5.      After party: Braai at Pearly Beach Angling Club after the handing in of score cards at 19:00. Arrangements have been made with the Club to prepare salads, bread, etc at a cost of R 30-00 per person. Included in the use of the facilities are wood, braaigrids, forks, knives, plates, etc. All you have to bring is your meat, spices, braaifork and dish. Please note that the Club has a cash bar available so no alcohol may be brought onto the premises.

2.6      Numbers attending: It was confirmed by the members present at the meeting that there will be 30 people who will be attending the social at the Pearly Beach Angling Club on 9 April 2011. Due to the limited time to collect the money from the members the club will make the payment and the money will then be recovered from members when the score cards are handed out.

2.7      Prizes: Currently no prizes are available for this competition, but should we be able to acquire prizes it will be communicated on the Pearly Beach thread.

3.      Genera1.

3.1.   Open Cob Competition (February 2010)- Feedback: A total of 66 people entered the competition. The fishing wasn’t as good as anticipated with only one cob being caught, but a blast was had by all who attended. A further word of thanks to the guys from the Village People who supported us in numbers – guys you are great, please let us know when we can support one of your events in the near future.

3.2.    Galjoen Clinic and Open Competition 2011:

It was explained to the members present that this event will be held in partnership with a Pay-it-Forward ambassador from the Chaeli Campaign who approached us to assist him with a fundraising project to collect money for equipment required by disabled and differently-abled children to make their life a little easier. As with the previous Clinics a raffle will be put on Sealine for a Trinidad 30 of which all proceeds will go to the charity. The revenue generated through the clinc and competition including the sale of CD’s will be divided at 60% to the charity and 40% to the club as agreed with the ambassador. The money received by the club will be utilized for payment of the sound system, printing of score cards, flyers & CD’s, etc.

(a)  This event will be held on 21 May 2011. The clinic will be held from 08:00 to 11:00 in
the Muizenberg Civic Centre just to make sure that possible bad the weather can not have a negative impact on the event.

(b)  After the clinic an open competition will be held where prizes in access of R 20 000-00 can be won at a registration cost of R 50-00 per person which includes a CD. No competition boundaries will be set so as to allow as much opportunity as possible to win the prizes. The issue of possible pre-entry by means of deposits or electronic transfers were discussed and it was decided that it is not a good idea due to the administration involved as well as the possibility of cheating.

(c)  Score cards will again be used as with the previous open competitions and needs to be signed by a witness that has also entered the competition. All fish to be weighed in even though a score cards is also being used. The matter of also taking a photo with the score card to try and eliminate cheating was discussed and eventually agreed that it will not really contribute to reduce dishonesty.

(d)  CD’s with a manual on catching Galjoen (PDF format) will again be produced for this event. Wikus is currently busy with the document and once finished it will be edited and polished by Dirk. It was also decided that if people did not want the CD they can order a the information in book format, but the cost of printing the book will be for their account.

(e)  The possibility of producing a DVD with the actual presentations, etc was also discussed but it was agreed by the majority that we are not ready for such a project at present.

(f)  The prizes which are already available for the competition are the following:

A combat flight for two in the legendary Huey helicopter (± R 4 000.00)

A Peninsula Helicopter flight for four in a Jet Ranger helicopter (± R 3 500)

A boat cruise in the Waterfront (Exact details and costs to be confirmed)

Waterfront Gift Vouchers to the value of R 1000.00

      A Shimano fishing Reel (± R 900.00)

      A Tackle Bag (± R 500.00)

A 5 Day Breakaway (Monday – Friday) for 6 people in Mosselbay – If a Galjoen

above the weight specified by the club is caught (± R 5 000.00)

Further prizes are being sourced and will be announced when secured

(g) It was agreed that a flyer will by compiled and made available to all members to print and to approach all Tackle Shops, Supermarkets, etc in their area to put up the flyers to ensure that the event is advertised as widely as possible. Rinex will also organize withCape Town TV to feature the event.

(h)  When the issue of assistance by members were raised it was clear that there will be no shortage of helping hands with any tasks related to this event. The tasks and responsibilities will be listed and allocated to various members by the next meeting where they will be informed accordingly.

3.3.     Sponsorships: Marthin indicated that he has been experiencing so problems with Suburban regarding sponsorship for the previous competition, but will discuss it with Faheem. All other members are urged to try and obtain sponsorships for prizes for future competitions. A request was made that a letter to request sponsorships be compiled and made available to members to assist them in approaching possible sponsors.

Marthin also confirmed that Sealine Admin approved that any sponsor providing a sponsorship between R 300-00 and R 500-00 to the club for a particular month may have a banner posted on Sealine for the month, while any sponsor providing a sponsorship of R 500-00 and more for a particular month may have a banner posted on Sealine for the month and may also have there logo displayed on the club's banner for the month. Some enquiries in this regard have already been received and members are requested to also promote this initiative with possible sponsors.

3.4.     New members: Two new members joined the club at the meeting. A very big welcome to DALP22 and his brother.

3.5.     It has been agreed that the June 2011 club competition will be held at Cape Point Nature Reserve on 4 June 2011. Final decisions in respect of this competition will be made at the meeting the Tuesday prior to the competition.

3.6.     Two members expressed their dissatisfaction with the Sealine clothes that were ordered and indicated that new members as well as existing members might think twice before ordering these items. A proposal was made that Sealine Admin be approached to give approval to get a supplier in the Western Cape, but the club management indicated that it will not be allowed. The members will however take the matter up with OFC in an attempt to get the problem sorted out.

3.7.    Faheem (Extremist) mentioned that the Village People has raised enough funds with their initiatives to go on an angling trip outside the RSA and that we should also look at this as a long term project for the club. The idea is to set a future date e.g. March 2012 for members of the club to visit Namibia, Angola, Mosambique, etc. Each member interested in going can then start saving a monthly amount with the club while the club will have several fund raisers to also contribute.

3.8.    The meeting adjourned at about 21:15

Manne, groot seblief.

Hi all SSEC:WC members

As you are aware, we had our Annual General Meeting last night (Tuesday, 19 July 2011) at the Hunt & Polo Club, Durbanville Race Course. The meeting doubled as AGM and preparatory meeting for the monthly Club Competition this Saturday, 23 July 2011 at Cape Point Reserve. As is the norm I will post the details of the logistical arrangements for the Club comp. immediately. The minutes of the AGM part of the meeting will follow later.

Club Comp. 23 July 2011, Cape Point Reserve:

1.             Fishing area: Cape Point Reserve
2.             Competition Secretary: Jo Jo (Frederick Isaacs) Cell no: 072 274 9329
3.             Starting time and Venue: Cape Point Reserve entrance gate – 07:00 to 07:30
4.             Weigh-in and Venue: Buffelsbaai – 15:00 sharp
5.             Rules: All existing competition rules apply. Check Constitution and Rules elsewhere on this thread for details.

NOTE: Members who do not make the starting time (07:00 - 07:30) will have grace until 08:30 to collect their Score Cards from the Competition Secretary, wherever he might be. Late-comers can contact him on his Cell (072 274 9329) to establish his whereabouts and to collect their Score Cards BEFORE 08:30 from him. Please note that he WILL NOT issue Score cards to members who do not meet the final cut-off time of 08:30. Any members who do not meet this grace period shall be disqualified from the competition. They may, however, participate in the day’s fishing on a non-competitive basis and attend the weigh-in/ social event, thus earning 15 points for attending the Social event.

5.      After party: Braai at Buffelsbaai in the Reserve where the score cards are to be handed in. Check the map that you will receive at the entrance gate for the whereabouts of this spot.
6.      As per a decision taken during the AGM, all participants on the day will be randomly divided in groups with a view to promote esprit de corps amongst members as well as to allow less experienced anglers and newcomers to learn from the more experienced anglers. This will take place immediately before the competition starts.

Hi All SSEC:WC members

Although the Minutes of last night's AGM will still be posted, those members that could not attend the meeting will no doubt be curious to learn who the newly elected members of the Management Committee is. I therefore gladly post the names of the newly elected members to the management Committee.

Kindly note that those members that are no longer in their old positions or are no longer in the Management Committee, specifically indicated that they were no longer available to serve in their respective positions. These members stay, however, committed to the Club's cause.

Please also note that one new position was created at the AGM, being the position of Marketing Officer. He will be responsible for the marketing of the Club and it's activities in conjunction with the rest of the Management Committee.

Hi All

MINUTES OF THE AGM OF 19 JULY 2011

As already reported the SSEC:WC held its Annual General Members meeting on Tuesday, 19 July 2011 at the Hunt & Polo Club, Durbanville. It also doubled as monthly meeting with a view to finalise the arrangements for our monthly Club Competition on Saturday, 23 July 2010. As it was important to communicate the decisions taken in the latter regard immediately it was decided that separate “Minutes” would be posted for the two parts of the meeting. The Minutes of the competition part have already been posted.

I’m therefore pleased to post the decisions taken at the SSEC:WC AGM meeting on Tuesday, 19 July 2011:

1.         The meeting was well attended, with two guests, Mongi and Bending Rod indicating that they planned on joining the Club.

2.         The Chairman and Treasurer’s respective reports will be posted as separate documents.

3.         Proposed amendments to the Constitution and Rules and other suggestions:

3.1.      Motion 1: Amendment to Clause 10 of Constitution (Office bearers).

Motion tabled by Kaspaas (Dirk). Proposed amendment approved as presented. It was approved that the current Management Committee would be extended by the creation of a position of Marketing Officer.

3.2.       Motion 2: Fishing in random groups during monthly Club competitions.

Motion tabled by Mangi (Johnathan). It was decided that all participants on the day of a Club competition, will be randomly divided in groups with a view to promote esprit de corps amongst members as well as to allow less experienced anglers and newcomers to learn from the more experienced anglers. It was, however, also agreed that fishing partners who prefer to fish together would not be forced to fish in different groups, but that other individual participants would rather be added to form a larger group or such fishing partners could be attached to another larger group for the day. The selection of the group leaders would depend greatly on the members’ knowledge of the specific fishing area on the day, rather than standing on the Club’s score board.

The Constitution and Rules will be amended where applicable to reflect the meeting’s decisions.

4.         Annual membership fees:
The annual membership fees will be increased from R150 to R200 with effect from 1 July 2011.

5.         Angola 2012 trip:
A suggestion was made (by Extremist) for the Club to consider arranging a trip to Angola specifically for the Club’s members, rather than going on the currently arranged trips as individuals. The response to such a trip was very positive. It was, however, decided that such a trip would only be planned in two years’ time as several members have already committed themselves to joining the trip being planned by Simen for 2012.

6.         Election of new Executive Members

6.1.      Chairman: Marthin was elected as Chairman. Mobi Dick (Nico) was not available for re-election.

6.2.      Vice-Chairman: Extremist (Faheem) was elected as Vice-Chairman in the position vacated by Marthin.

6.3.      Secretary: Kaspaas (Dirk) was re-elected unopposed as Secretary.

6.4.        Treasurer: Mobi Dick (Nico) was elected unopposed as Treasurer. Seawiid (Herman) was not available for re-election.

6.5.        Disciplinary Officer: It was decided that the position, vacated by Hannes101, would not be filled again as it is not required.

6.6.       Score Keeper: Strepie (Ruaan) was elected as Score Keeper. ***Galjoen*** (Wikus) was not available for re-election.

6.7.       Marketing Officer: Rinex (Fabian) was elected in this newly created position unopposed.

6.8.      No additional Executive Members were appointed.

7.         Annual End of Year function:

The Club’s annual end of year and prize-giving function will take place on a date still to be confirmed in September 2011 at the Hunt and Polo Club, Durbanville.
Further information and arrangements will be posted on the Sealine Forum.

8.         Stilbaai Galjoen Derby 2012:
It was decided that the Club would enter and sponsor two teams. Team members would be selected firstly based on attendance of Club meetings and monthly competitions, after which the members’ standings on the Club’s Score Board would be considered. This is to reward both loyal members, as well as members performing well in competitions. It would, therefore be difficult for a member who never or infrequently attends meetings and monthly competitions, but scores well during one or two competitions, to be selected to these teams.
9.         Bonus days:
Bonus days were abolished previously as it was believed that some members took bonus days when the weather conditions were favorable but did not attend competitions when conditions were bad, yet still won the monthly competitions. The result of this was however that members actually only fished together on competition days, while bonus days provided more opportunities for members to fish together. It was, therefore decided to re-instate bonus days after 23 July 2011. Members are reminded that bonus days for a specific month’s competition should be taken before the date of the monthly competition.
The Management Committee will formulate a scoring system to prevent members abusing it.
10.       The meeting adjourned after this, the exact time is unknown…….but very few members actually left the premises immediately.

Kaspaas
Club Secretary

The outgoing Chairman's report is attached. The Treasurer's report will be posted soon.
