Hi SSEC:WC Members and all interested Sealiners

Please take note of the Club’s Members meeting on Monday, 15 November 2010 in preparation of the Club’s monthly competition on 20 November 2010 at Strand/Gordons Bay.

Kindly note that the meeting was originally scheduled for 16 November 2010 but had to be brought forward due to the unavailability of the venue.

Date: Monday 15 November 2010
Time: 19H00 (Executive members meet at 18:30)
Venue: The Polo & Hunt Club, Durbanville

Please confirm if you will be able to attend.

All members are urged to attend, please.

All new and prospective members are also most welcome.

Indien u enige items wil byvoeg, pm my asseblief.

Hi All

I’m pleased to post the decisions taken at last night’s (15 November 2010)  SSEC:WC members meeting.

1.            A record number of 19 members and one guest attended the meeting. Maybe it had something to do with the casting practice that we had prior to the meeting.

2.            Logistical arrangements: Competition 20 November 2010 – Strand to Gordon’s Bay Old Harbour

2.1.      Fishing area: Strand wire fence (beginning of Strand seafront) up to and including Gordon’s Bay Old Harbour. Please note that it does not include Bikini Beach.

2.2.            Competition Secretary: Snapper (M Jassiem) has again been appointed for this competition.

2.3.            Start and end times of competition:
Start: 04:45 – 05:00
End (way-in): 14:00 – 14:30 (No grace after 14:30 and any late submissions will be disqualified)

2.4.            Venue for issuing Score Cards: Parking area at Old wooden jetty, Strand
Return of Score Cards: Harmony picnic area. If the picnic area is full the way-in will take place outside the gate to the park.

NOTE: Members who do not make the starting time (05:00) will have grace until 06:00 to collect their Score Cards from the Competition Secretary, wherever he might be. Late-comers can contact him on his Cell (074 130 8886) to establish his whereabouts and to collect their Score cards BEFORE 06:00 from him. Please note that he WILL NOT issue Score cards to members who do not meet the final cut-off time of 06:00. Any members who do not meet this grace period shall be disqualified from the competition. They may, however, participate in the day’s fishing on a non-competitive basis and attend the weigh-in/ social event, thus earning 15 points for attending the Social event.

2.5.      After party: Braai at Harmony picnic area.

2.6.      Prizes: The Club will sponsor its own prizes (Gift vouchers) for this competition.

3.      Genera1.

3.1.    Previous competition (October 2010)- Feedback: The fishing wasn’t as good as anticipated. The conditions can only be described as “extreme” and for some participants the little fire built by Marthin was the highlight of the whole event.

The social afterwards was, however, very successful

3.2.         Future competition dates:  The dates and venues for December 2010 and January 2011 are:

            #  4 December 2010: Macassar (specific area to be confirmed)

            #  22 January 2011 Langebaan (specific area to be confirmed)

3.3.      Recreational Fishing Services (RFC) – membership: It was decided that all members would consider joining this organization. RFC addresses issues of concern of the angling fraternity, such as the recent licensing fracas and takes legal action when required to protect anglers’ interests. Mobi Dick will do some more research on the types of membership and report back. In the meantime members are urged to read the threads and posts on Sealine that deals with this organization.

3.4.            Marthin reported that the new fishing line is on its way from Japan. Those who still have to provide him with their hat sizes should do it immediately as they are holding back all the hats. Members’ attention is also drawn to the current specials on Sealine apparel as advertised on the relevant thread on Sealine.

3.5.            Members are urged yet again to make sure of the rules governing the Club’s competitions, including the bonus days. Members that do not follow the correct procedures or that do not meet the cut-off times will unfortunately be disqualified and no points earned for their catches. Unfortunately we cannot allow exceptions to the rules as it would create precedents which would inevitable lead to chaos. Members are therefore again urged to familiar themselves with the Club’s Constitution and Rules as posted on the SSEC:WC Announcements thread.

3.6.            The meeting adjourned at about 20:15

Guys, op 'n punt van orde.... soos julle weet is hierdie thread gereserveer vir Aankondigings alleenlik. Dis om te verhoed dat belangrike SSEC:WC dokumente en aankondigings tussen die geklets verlore raak.

I have, however, also created a thread for the 4 December 2010 competition. You are most welcome to post your comments on that thread.

Hi All

I’m pleased to post the decisions taken at last night’s (30 November 2010) SSEC:WC members meeting.

1.       Less than the previous meeting in November but again a fairly good attendance, although we still miss about half the members at these meetings. Some 15 members, one new member and one guest attended the meeting.

2.       Logistical arrangements: Competition 4 December 2010 – Macassar, False Bay:

2.1.    Fishing area: Macassar - From the Parking area to the fence.

2.2.    Competition Secretary: Mobi Dick

2.3.    Start and end times of competition:
Start: 04:30 – 05:00
End (weigh-in): 14:00 – 14:30 (No grace after 14:30 and any late submissions will be disqualified)

NOTE: Special arrangements made for Strepie and ***Galjoen*** that have to leave early and Extremist that will be late due to work commitments. See also amendments to existing Competition Rules under Item 3.7 below.

2.4.     Venue for issuing Score Cards: Macassar Parking area
Return of Score Cards: Blok House
NOTE: Members who do not make the starting time (05:00) will have grace until 06:00 to collect their Score Cards from the Competition Secretary, wherever he might be. Late-comers can contact him on his Cell (073605567) to establish his whereabouts and to collect their Score cards BEFORE 06:00 from him.

2.5.   After party: Blok House.

2.5.   Prizes: The Club will sponsor its own prizes (Gift vouchers) for this competition.

3.      General.

3.1.    Previous competition (November 2010)- Feedback: The fishing wasn’t as good as anticipated but the event was nevertheless a success.

3.2.      Future competition dates:  The date and venue for January 2011i s 22 January 2011 at Langebaan (specific area to be confirmed)

3.3.      Recreational Fishing Services (RFC) – membership: It was previously decided that all members would consider joining this organization. Some have already done so.

3.4.    New members: A hearty welcome to James Watt that recently moved to Boston, Bellville from Klerksdorp. He has already registered on Sealine but is in the process of changing his Sealine Username. He admits to being a newbie to surf fishing in the Cape and asks that the local Sealiners assist him with the whereabouts and secrets of the local spots.

3.5.    Mobi Dick reports that the Club owes Extremist a Gift Voucher for a win during a previous month’s competition. It will be presented to him as soon as possible.

3.6.    Wikus (***Galjoen***) was unanimously awarded the “pienk stok” as penalty for disappearing during November’s competition and not attending the weigh-in. He apparently had a good excuse, which he apparently conveyed by sms to Extremist, but this was unanimously rejected by the meeting. A swimming pool overflowing apparently isn’t deemed a suitable excuse!

3.7.    Competition Rules – amendments/clarifications: During the meeting the following amendments/clarifications were made regarding the Club’s competitions:
  • Any member that cannot meet the starting time (final cut-off time) of a competition or has a valid reason for having to leave before the final weigh-in cut-off time has to make presentations for concession by no later than the meeting immediately before the specific competition’s monthly meeting. Should such members’ bone fide excuses be accepted such members will not be disqualified or loose points during that month’s competition. This ruling was approved to ensure members still attend Club competitions, notwithstanding other valid commitments.
  • An additional competition was approved. Currently only catches that are released are taken into consideration for the Club’s internal record catches. It was decided that a separate category would be brought in with immediate effect. This is for record catches that are not released. Wikus (Score keeper) has all previous catches and will provide Kaspaas with the details for the issuing of Record Certificates in this category.
  • To boost attendance of the Club’s monthly competitions it was unanimously decided that the existing competition scoring system should be changed with immediate effect. Currently Bonus day points are added to scores of the actual competition day to identify the Monthly Competition winner. This has been changed. Bonus day points will no longer count for the monthly competition, but would only count towards the Annual Club Champion competition. Only points scored during the actual monthly competition day will be taken into consideration.
  • Should there be no winners during a specific month’s competition, no Monthly winner will be announced and no prizes awarded. Prizes that are not awarded in one month are NOT rolled over to the next month’s competition.
3.8.   The meeting adjourned at about 20:15

Hi All

I’m pleased to post the decisions taken at last night’s (18 January 2011) SSEC:WC members meeting.

1.    The meeting was attended by 13 existing members, three new members and one guest.

2.     Logistical arrangements: Competition - 22 January 2011 – Langebaan:

2.1.  Fishing area: Langebaan lagoon. It was decided that members would fish as a group, wherever the weather dictates on the day.

2.2.   Competition Secretary: Craig Myburg

2.3.   Start and end times of competition:
Start: 06:00 – 06:45
End (weigh-in): 15:00 – 15:30 (No grace after 15:30 and any late submissions will be disqualified)

2.4.   Venue for issuing Score Cards: Total Garage, Langebaan at Steers.
Return of Score Cards: Same as above.

NOTE: Members who do not make the starting time (06:45) will have grace until 08:00 to collect their Score Cards from the Competition Secretary, wherever he might be. Late-comers can contact him on his Cell (082 335 2561) to establish his whereabouts and to collect their Score Cards BEFORE 08:00 from him. Please note that he WILL NOT issue Score cards to members who do not meet the final cut-off time of 08:00. Any members who do not meet this grace period shall be disqualified from the competition. They may, however, participate in the day’s fishing on a non-competitive basis and attend the weigh-in/ social event, thus earning 15 points for attending the Social event.

2.5.  After party: To be confirmed.

3.     General.

3.1.  Previous competition (December 2010)- Feedback: The fishing wasn’t as good as anticipated but the event was nevertheless a success.

3.2.   Sponsorships: Currently the Club has no regular sponsors. It was therefore decided that the Club will embark on a number of fund raising initiatives to bolster Club funds. Members participating in monthly competitions will with effect from January 2011 pay an entrance fee of R10,00 to compete. This will go towards the Club’s funds.

It was also decided that prizes will no longer be awarded to competition winners, apart from the floating trophy. Should sponsors, however, donate prizes it may be awarded to winners.

3.3.   New members: Three new members joined the Club. All three attended the meeting. We wish to extend a hearty welcome to Troy13 (Hannes vd Burgh), Goose ZA (Angus Pollock) and rinex (Fabian Collins). We trust that these new members will become just as nutty about our sport as the rest of the guys (and ladies) in the Club.

3.4.   Future competition dates:  The February 2011 monthly competition will coincide with the planned Cob Clinic on 12 February 2011 at Macassar. Further details will be provided in this regard on another post.

Due to the Five Species competition taking place early March in Struisbaai, it was already decided that the April competition will be held in Pearly Beach. No decision was taken yet regarding the venue for the Club’s March competition.

3.5.    Recreational Fishing Services (RFC) – membership: It was previously decided that all members would consider joining this organization. RFC addresses issues of concern of the angling fraternity, such as the recent licensing fracas and takes legal action when required to protect anglers’ interests. Mobi Dick can be contacted for more information.

3.6.    Cob Clinic: The SSEC:WC Cob Clinic will take place on Saturday, 12 February 2011 at Macassar, False Bay. Initial indications are that it will start at 14:00 and run up to about 16:00, were after all participants would be welcome to participate in an angling competition from 18:00 to 24:00 at the same venue. Entry fees will be R50,00 which will include attendance to the Clinic, a copy of the presentation and the subsequent competition. There will also be a number of prizes to be won.

SSEC:WC members are requested to send Wikus (***Galjoen***) photo’s of nice Cob catches for possible inclusion in the presentation material. Photos may be sent to any of the following two e-mail addresses:

minkievdm@telkomsa.net or VDMerW58@telkom.co.za.

3.7.   4-5 March 2011 Five Species, Struisbaai: The organizers of the event have invited SSEC:WC to enter an official Club team. All members wishing to attend are urgently asked to pm Moby Dick indicating their availability.

3.8.   Competition Rules – amendments/clarifications: During the November 2010 Club meeting a number of amendments/clarifications were made regarding the Club’s competitions. The relevant notes in this regard from the previous minutes are enclosed for ease of reference:

·    Any member that cannot meet the starting time (final cut-off time) of a competition or has a valid reason for having to leave before the final weigh-in cut-off time has to make presentations for concession by no later than the meeting immediately before the specific competition’s monthly meeting. Should such members’ bone fide excuses be accepted such members will not be disqualified or loose points during that month’s competition. This ruling was approved to ensure members still attend Club competitions, notwithstanding other valid commitments.

·   An additional competition was approved.

·   To boost attendance of the Club’s monthly competitions it was unanimously decided that the existing competition scoring system should be changed with immediate effect. ·   Should there be no winners during a specific month’s competition, no Monthly winner will be announced and no prizes awarded. Prizes that are not awarded in one month are NOT rolled over to the next month’s competition.

3.9.   The meeting adjourned at about 20:15

Hi SSEC:WC Members and all interested Sealiners

Please take note of the Club’s Members meeting on Tuesday, 8 February 2011 in preparation of the Club’s Open Cob Clinic and Open Cob Night competition on 12 February 2011 at Macassar.

Date: Tuesday 8 February 2011
Time: 18H00 for 19H00
Venue: The Polo & Hunt Club, Durbanville

All members are urged to attend, please.

Kindly note that if all goes as planned we will again hold some casting exercises from 18:00 prior to the meeting.

All new and prospective members are also most welcome.

Indien u enige verdere Agenda items wil byvoeg, pm my asseblief.

1.7.      Venue for issuing Score Cards: Block House Macassar.
Return of Score Cards: Same as above.

NOTE: The program and rules for the Cob Clinic and subsequent Cob competition has already been posted on the Forum.  One additional rule was approved. That is, should two anglers catch the same size (largest) Cob, the angler that released his/her catch gets preference and will therefore be placed first. Should both, however, have released their catches the winner shall be decided by the flip of a coin. Should both not have released their catches, the winner shall be decided by weighing the fish. Should both have the same weight, the winner shall be decided by the flip of a coin.

1.8.   Raffle: Members are reminded that the cut-off date for EFT purchasing of raffle tickets is Wednesday, 9 February 2011. You can, however, still purchase tickets at R30 on Saturday at the Clinic.

1.9.   Cd’s of the Cob Clinic presentation can be purchased for R50 per CD at the Clinic on Saturday. Persons entering the Cob Competition will also receive a copy of the CD with their registration.

3.      General.

3.1.  Previous competition (January 2011)- Feedback: The fishing was very good for a change and the social afterwards was excellent.  It was felt that the Club should try to use the braai facility (Military property) again in future.

3.2.   Family day: It was suggested that a family day be held at the above braai and picnic area. Mobi Dick will establish whether the facility can be rented again from the Department of Defence.

3.3.   Sponsorships: Suburban Tackle has indicated that they would consider sponsoring the Club on a regular basis. They want to meet with the Club’s Management Committee. This will be arranged.

All sponsors of the Cob Clinic will be acknowledged at the event.

3.3.   New members: A possible new member attended the meeting. Pieter Van Dalen hopes to join the Club and become just as nuts about fishing as the rest of us.

3.4.   Future competition dates:

4-5 March 2011 - Five Species Struisbaai, Members wishing to compete in the Club’s teams should confirm as soon as possible. A separate thread will be opened in this regard.

The meeting was attended by 15 members. This included a new member, Allan Schapiro (Outerpool)  and two guests who after last night are definitely considering joining the ranks of Sealine’s most merry men. They are the winner of our recent raffle for a LF rod and Daiwa SL30 reel, fishing bag and traces, Bastion and his mate, Cptfly. Although they seem to be more into fly fishing by the sound of the latter’s username, nothing prevents them from getting more involved with the more rough and tumble sport of Rock & Surf fishing!! You guys are more than welcome, as you probably soon realized last night.

Hi All

I’m pleased to post the decisions taken at last night’s (15 March 2011) SSEC:WC members meeting.

1.    The meeting was attended by 11 existing members, and one guest.

2.     Logistical arrangements: Open Cob Competition - 26 March 2011 – False Bay.

2.1.  Fishing area: Muizenberg to Gordons Bay.

2.2.   Competition Secretaries for entries: Strepie, Rinex and Craig Myburg as stand by. Should it be necessary other members at the registration will be requested to assist.

The Weigh Master for the competition will be ***Galjoen***

2.3.   Start and end times of competition:

Registration: 04:30 – 05:00
Start: 05:00 – 16:00
End (weigh-in): 16:30 – 17:00 (No grace after 17:00 and any late submissions will be disqualified)

2.4.   Venue for registration and issuing of Score Cards: False Bay One Stop on the N2 outgoing.
Return of Score Cards: Same as above.

NOTE: The notice of the Cob competition has already been posted on the Forum. The rules of the competition will also be posted on the Forum, explained at the registration and a copy provided with the score card. A rule that needs to be added to the existing is that a participant can only qualify for one prize e.g. if he / she catches three cob and it is the heaviest three fish for the competition he / she will only be awarded first prize and not 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize.

As the club will be having its monthly competition within this competition each member must ensure that they receive two score cards. Cob to be taken into account for the Open Cob Competition must be kept and weighed in. Should a club member however want a cob to count towards his yearly club points the fish may be released to qualify for maximum points, but will then not be taken into account for the prizes at the Open Cob Competition. Club members may also target other fish species in order to accumulate points, such fish will however not be taken into account for purposes of the Open Cob Competition.

Club Members who do not make the starting time (05:00) can make arrangements with somebody to register and collect the score cards on their behalf. Should a member not be able to fish the competition they may attend the weigh-in/ social event, thus earning 15 points for attending the Social event.

Depending final negotiations the following will be available as prizes at the Open Competition.

1st Prize     Saltist / Trinidad Fishing Reel (± R 1 600-00)
2nd Prize     Speedmaster Fishing Reel (± R 900-00)
3rd Prize     Splash Jacket (± R 700-00)
4th Prize     Tackle Box / Bag and goodies (R unknown)
5th Prize     Live Well for Bait Fish (± R 220) Interchangeable with 4th Prize depending on value

Lucky Draws – 2 x CD’s by Raymond de Bruyn and 2 x Bait books also by Raymond de Bruyn as well as Cob CD's. Still trying to obtain more which will be made known as it becomes available.

An additional prize of a 5 day (Monday to Friday) breakaway in Mossel Bay for 6 people have been obtained. This prize to the value of ± R 5 000-00 may only be used out of season and subject to availability.

This prize will however only be awarded to a participant that catches the biggest cob over 15 kg. If nobody catches a cob over 15 kg the prize will be rolled over to the next competition.

The following members have been assigned to bring the items as listed against there names:

Kaspaas – Folding table, Flip chart & Poster Frames

Mobi Dick – Table, Gas Lamp & Tent Pegs

***Galjoen*** - Scale.

2.5.  After party: No after party will be held for this event.

3.     General.

3.1.  5 Species Struisbaai (March 2011)- Feedback: A great time was had by all who attended. The official rankings as per the 5 Spesies website is:

          Marthin 20th, Monty 56th and Meesterbeer 57th out of ± 350 anglers

SSEC: WC – TEAM 1 10th out of the 28 teams that entered the competition.

Well done all and next year we will improve on these results.

3.2.  Cob Clinic CD sales: There is about 30 more CD’s left and people are still buying. The CD’s will also be available for sale at the Open Cob Competition on 26 March 2011.

3.3.   Galjoen Clinic 2011: It was decided that the Galjoen Clinic and Open Competition will be held during the latter part of May 2011. A request was received from Keegan Blaine (13 Years) who is a Pay-It-Forward Ambassador for the Chaeli Campaign to partner with the club in arranging an event to raise funds for the organization. It was decided that the Galjoen Clinic can be used for this purpose. A raffle for a top of the range reel will be placed on Sealine of which all proceeds will go to the organization. The earnings from the event will then be divided on a percentage basis (Proposed 60% / 40%) for the organization and the club respectively. Once final arrangements in this regard have been made more detail will be provided. ***Galjoen*** will again compile information about catching Galjoen which will be put on CD to be sold at the event.

3.3.   Sponsorships: We have again been provided with a sponsorship from Suburban Fishing tackle in the form of a reel and a tackle box / bag with some goodies. Marthin is awaiting a logo design from them to arrange that a banner be put on the Forum under SSEC: WC. They have also indicated that they are willing to sponsor the monthly club competitions and a meeting will be held between the club management and there management as soon as it has been arranged by Marthin. In the meantime all members that do go and buy from Suburban please make a point of indicating to them that you are a SSEC: WC member so that they can see we are supporting them.

A suggestion was also made that we need to look at charging a fee to have people advertising on the SSEC: WC banner i.e. the interested party will pay for a small “banner” containing there logo which will then be put on the big SSEC: WC banner to be used at events and competitions against payment of a fee.

3.3.   New members: The guest (Pieter) that attended indicated that he and a friend will be joining. A telephone number of an interested party was provided to Mobi Dick who will contact him during the course of this week. Mobi Dick’s brother’s two sons (Juniors) will also be joining shortly.

3.4.   Future competition dates: 9 April 2011 – Pearly Beach. The date has been confirmed and the fishing area will be from Rietfontein to Gansbaai. The rest of the logistics for the competition will be finalized at the member’s meeting the week before the competition.

3.5.   The meeting adjourned at about 20:10
