ANNUAL GENERAL MEMBERS MEETING: SSEC:WC

Hi SSEC:WC Members

Please take note of the Club’s Annual General Members meeting on Tuesday, 27 July 2010. The meeting will also include preparation for the Club’s competition on 31 July 2010.

Date: Tuesday 27 July 2010
Time: 19H00 (Executive members meet at 18:00)
Venue: The Polo & Hunt Club, Durbanville

Please confirm if you will be able to attend.

All new and prospective members are most welcome.

Hi All

As already reported the SSEC:WC held its Annual General Members meeting on Tuesday, 27 July 2010 at the Hunt & Polo Club, Durbanville. It also doubled as monthly meeting with a view to finalise the arrangements for our monthly Club Competition on Saturday, 31 July 2010. As it was important to communicate the decisions taken in the latter regard immediately it was decided that separate “Minutes” would be posted for the two parts of the meeting. The Minutes of the competition part have already been posted.

I’m therefore pleased to post the decisions taken at the SSEC:WC AGM meeting on Tuesday, 27 July 2010:

1.         The meeting was well attended, with a number of new members joining at the meeting.

2.         The Chairman and Treasurer’s respective reports will be posted as separate documents.

3.         Proposed amendments to the Constitution and Rules.

3.1.        Amendment to Clause 8.7 of Constitution (Executive Committee members period to serve).

Motion tabled by Kaspaas (Dirk). Proposed amendment approved as presented. See attachment to initial notice and agenda of the meeting.

3.2.        Amendment to Clauses 9.5. and 11.2. of Constitution (Opening of Bank account).

Motion tabled by Kaspaas (Dirk). Proposed amendment approved as presented. See attachment to initial notice and agenda of the meeting.

The meeting also decided that the Executive Committee will test the market and decide on the most appropriate Bank.

3.3.     Amendment to Clause 15.1. of Constitution (Code of Conduct).

Motion tabled by Kaspaas (Dirk). Proposed amendment approved as presented. See attachment to initial notice and agenda of the meeting.

3.4.     Amendment of Clause 20. of Constitution (Sealine Admin conditions).

Motion tabled by Kaspaas (Dirk). This refers to the specific conditions required by Sealin Admin, in terms of which approval was granted for the establishment of the SSEC:WC. It was felt that the Constitution should be amended to also reflect these conditions. It was decided that this list will be included under Clause 20 (General Conditions).

3.5.        Amendment of Rule 10.1. of Competition Rules. (Procedure in event of submitting proof of Bonus Day catches).

Motion tabled by Sailfish (Hein). This refers to the procedure when submitting proof of Bonus Day catches. It was decided that in the event of a member being accompanied by another Club member, it would no longer be required that photographic proof also be submitted to the Score Keeper. In such cases the SMS/E-mail notice of the catch(es) should still be submitted with full details of the catch, but should include the name of the witness (another Club member) to the catch. In the event of anglers not having fellow Club members to witness their catches, photos should still be submitted before 12:00 the next day, or on the Monday in the event of a Bonus day over a weekend. Please note that the time for submission of photos have also been amended from 09:00 to 12:00.

3.6.        Amendment of Rules 2.2. and 2.3. of Competition Rules. (Rules relating to equipment)

Motion tabled by Hannes101 (Hannes). The motion refers to the thickness (diameter) of monofilament and breaking strength of braided or twisted line, allowable in terms of the current Rules.

The current rules were taken from the rules applied by organized angling, which also targets larger inedible fish. It was, however, argued that as the Club concentrates only on edible fish, such limitations on the breaking strength and diameter do not really have relevance. It was, therefore, decided that Rule 2.2. should be scrapped altogether. In this regard it follows that Rule 2.3. which sets limits on the thickness and length of leaders, should also be scrapped.

The Constitution and Rules will be amended to reflect the meeting’s decisions.

4.             Election of new Executive Members

4.1.              Chairman: Mobi Dick (Nico Fourie) was unanimously re-elected as Chairman.

4.2.              Vice-Chairman (Vacant): Two candidates were nominated. After a vote Marthin was eventually elected as new Vice-Chairman.

4.3.              Secretary: Kaspaas (Dirk) was unanimously re-elected as Secretary.

4.4.              Treasurer: Seawiid (Herman) was unanimously re-elected as Treasurer.

4.5.              Disciplinary Officer:  Three candidates were nominated. After the two other nominated candidates declined their nominations Hannes 101 (Hannes) was elected as Disciplinary officer in the position vacated by Marthin.

4.6.              Score Keeper: ***Galjoen*** (Wikus) was unanimously re-elected as Score Keeper.

4.7.              No additional Executive Members were appointed.

5.                   Annual End of Year function:

The Club’s annual end of year and prize-giving function will take place on Saturday, 11 September 2010 at the Hunt and Polo Club, Durbanville.
It will be in the form of a braai. Members should bring their own meat and utensils while the Club will supply side dishes. Kindly note that as it is a licensed premises we have to purchase our drinks at the bar. Their tariffs are, however, very reasonable. Further information and arrangements will be posted on the Sealine Forum.

6.                   Witsand Bash, 24-26 September 2010 (Western Cape and Southern/Eastern Cape Sealiners)

Marthin has placed a thread in this regard on Sealine. Members who have placed their names on the list for the “house” should pay in a deposit of R130. Further information in this regard will however be posted on above thread. All members are urged participate that weekend.

7.                   The meeting was interrupted by numerous “breaks” (smoking and replenishment of refreshments) but the discussions were very constructive (as may be noted from the decisions taken) and in very high spirits. A number of new members joined at the meeting and immediately paid their subs. It was clear that although they did not know their new fellow Club members, they definitely immediately felt at home.

8.                   The Secretary did not make a note of the exact time that the meeting eventually adjourned……..

Hi all

Herewith the Club's Treasurer's Financial Report for the year ending 31 July 2010:

FINANCIAL REPORT: SSEC: WC: YEAR ENDING 31 JULY 2010

Herewith a brief Financial Report for the year ending July 2010.

The Sealine Social Edibles Club: Western Cape (SSEC:WC) currently has a membership of 40, an increase of 15 new members since October 2009.

Apart from the annual Membership fee of R150, of which a portion had to go towards the purchase, personalizing and postage of Members’ Sealine hats, the Club was dependant on raffles as a source of income. A number of raffles were organised during the year as a means of improving the clubs finances. Notably Hein van Zyl (Sailfish) netted R1 470,00 for his trace raffles, while Marthin's reel raffle netted     R4 250,00.

The financial statements currently reflect a positive cash balance of R10 539,00

The bulk of the expenditure during the year was for member's bush hats totaling R2 841,00 while a contribution was made to the fishing permits of members competing in the Club Competition at Cape Point Reserve. A deposit of R1 000, 00 was also paid for the renting of the Hunt & Polo Clubhouse facilities for purposes of the Club’s planned Annual End-of-Year function on 11 September 2010.

Seawiid
Treasurer

Guys as for the fishing line:

People have asked about the money. If you can do a transfer, transfer to the following account:

Absa

Those that would rather hand over cash at the club comp are also free to do so.

Please put in your sealine name as reference I am going to give it a gap until Friday 27th and then send the order through, so as to facilitate the guys with payday.

Hi all SSEC:WC members

As most of you know the Club is having our Annual End-of-Year and prize giving function on Saturday, 11 September 2010 at the Hunt and Polo Club, Durbanville. It is the same venue where we have our monthly meetings.

It was decided at the Club’s recent Members meeting that the function would be in the form of a Bring and Braai with the Club providing the wood and fires as well as bread. It was further decided that Members would be asked to bring along a bowl of salad or something as contribution to the side dishes.

As the Hunt and Polo Club is a licensed facility you will have to purchase you alcoholic drinks from the cash bar.

Members are urged to indicate whether you are going to attend and the number of persons (wife, kids, etc) in your family.  Please also indicate whether you would make a contribution towards the side dishes and the nature of it (example potato salad, mixed salad, pasta salad, etc). As more than one member will probably bring a bowl of the same salad/side dish it should not be necessary for members to bring large bowls of whatever you are contributing.

Should you have any queries or suggestions, feel free to contact me via pm.

Kaspaas
Club Secretary

Hi All

I’m pleased to post the decisions taken at last night’s (21 September 2010)  SSEC:WC members meeting.

1.     ONLY NINE members attended. A number of members did submit their apologies for not attending but the majority did not even bother to do so. Komaan manne en meisies, julle kan beter!!!!! Consider those that did not let us know…. as being “kakked-out”!

2.     Logistical arrangements: Witsand competition 25 August  2010:

2.1.   Fishing area: To prevent congestion with the Witsand Skins taking place at the same time, it was decided that our area would include Witsand to Stilbaai. Marthin will post Google maps on the Forum.

2.2.   Competition Secretary: Snapper (M Jassiem) has been appointed for this competition.

2.3.   Start and end times of competition:
       Start: 04:30 – 05:00.
End (way-in): 15:00 – 15:30. (No grace after 15:30 and any late submissions will be disqualified).

NOTE: Members who do not make the morning starting time (05:00) will have grace until 06:00 to collect their Score Cards from the Competition Secretary, wherever he might be. Late-comers can contact him on his Cell (074 130 8886) to establish his whereabouts and to collect their Score cards BEFORE 06:00 from him. Please note that he WILL NOT issue Score cards to members who do not meet the final cut-off time of 06:00. Any members who do not meet this grace period shall be disqualified from the competition. They may, however, participate in the day’s fishing on a non-competitive basis and attend the weigh-in/ social event, thus earning 15 points for attending the Social event.

2.4.  Venue for issuing Score Cards: Old Jetty (See Google maps to be posted by Marthin)

2.5.  Return of Score Cards: Communal Sealine house. Contact Craig on Thursday for address.
       His Cell no. is 082 335 2561

2.6.  After party: Same as above. It will take the form of a “bring and braai” or “bring and do whatever” as someone put it.

2.7. Accommodation: Should anyone still have problems with accommodation, please contact Craig at his number indicated above. There might still be some space in the communal house.

3.          Genera1.

3.1.    Previous competition (August 2010)- Feedback: Due to extreme weather conditions fishing was poor and very few fish caught but social was again great success. The fact that more comments were made about Gotaway’s extremely nice Mutton steaks should be an indication of the poor fishing.

3.2.    End of year function (11 Sept 2010) - Feedback: All were in agreement that it was an excellent function. Many thanks to all that contributed to it’s success.

3.3.    Sponsorships: Ebs sent pm’s to all members regarding the special deals on weights and servicing of reels by Old Salt. Any member that wants to have his reels serviced by Old Salt should contact Kaspaas for a letter of introduction as proof of his or her membership.
Members are also reminded of the special deal with Coral Wetsuits in terms of which members get 15% discount on their custom made Farmer John wetsuits. Any member that wants to make use of this deal should contact Kaspaas for a letter of introduction.

3.4.    Future competition dates:  Next date and venue is 15/16 October 2010 at Spreeuwalle, Langebaan. Competition will be from Friday night to Saturday afternoon, weather permitting. In the event of unfavourable weather conditions the fishing area might be changed to include the greater Langebaan area or limited to only the Saturday, 16 October 2010.

Hi SSEC:WC Members and all interested Sealiners

Please take note of the Club’s Members meeting on Tuesday, 12 October 2010 in preparation of the Club’s Day-night competition on Friday and Saturday, 15-16 October 2010 at  Spreeuwalle, Langebaan.

Date: Tuesday 12 October 2010
Time: 19H00 (Executive members meet at 18:00)
Venue: The Polo & Hunt Club, Durbanville

Please confirm if you will be able to attend.

All members are urged to attend, please.

New and prospective members are also most welcome.

Indien u enige items wil byvoeg, pm my asseblief.

Hi All

I’m pleased to post the decisions taken at last night’s (12 October 2010)  SSEC:WC members meeting.

1.     ONLY TWELVE members and two new members attended. A small number of members did submit their apologies for not attending but the majority did not even bother to do so. Guys, this is simply not good enough. We cannot take good decisions with only 35% of the members present.

2.     Logistical arrangements: Spreeuwalle, Langebaan night-day competition, 15-16 October  2010:

2.1.   Fishing area: Spreeuwalle, Langebaan. From the rocks to the left of Spreeuwalle beach up to about Die Dam. Marthin will post Google maps on the Forum to show exact demarcated area.

2.2.   Competition Secretary: Snapper (M Jassiem) has again been appointed for this competition.

2.3.   Start and end times of competition:
       Start: 19:00 – 21:00, Friday, 15 October 2010.
End (way-in): 10:00 – 10:30, Saturday, 16 October 2010 (No grace after 10:30 and any late submissions will be disqualified).

2.4.       Venue for issuing Score Cards: Pick&Pay, Laguna Mall, Club Mykonos
Return of Score Cards: Parking area at Spreeuwalle.

NOTE: Members who do not make the starting time (19:00) will have grace until 21:00 to collect their Score Cards from the Competition Secretary, wherever he might be. Late-comers can contact him on his Cell (074 130 8886) to establish his whereabouts and to collect their Score cards BEFORE 21:00 from him. Please note that he WILL NOT issue Score cards to members who do not meet the final cut-off time of 21:00. Any members who do not meet this grace period shall be disqualified from the competition. They may, however, participate in the day’s fishing on a non-competitive basis and attend the weigh-in/ social event, thus earning 15 points for attending the Social event.

2.5.   Car Security at Spreeuwalle parking area: Marthin and Alwyn both to try and arrange
appropriate security. Participants will be asked for a contribution to the costs.

2.6.   After party: Brunch Skottelbraai at Spreeuwalle Parking area. Marthin and Mobi Dick will bring skottelbraais. Alwyn will contribute enough boerewors. Extremist to purchase Halaal wors for muslim members, to be refunded by Alwyn. A BIG THANKS to Alwyn for this generous gesture!!

2.7.     Prizes: The Club will sponsor its own prizes (Gift vouchers) for this competition.

2.8.     It was decided that Extremist (Faheem) will be awarded the “Pink Rod” to fish with at the next competition. This was due to his part in the “prawn saga” that took place at the previous competition weekend in Witsand. His claims that he was not actually involved were not accepted. Sorry Faheem, I reckon you were framed, so to speak. Ha ha

3.      Genera1.

3.1.    Previous competition (September 2010)- Feedback: The fishing wasn’t as good as anticipated.
The social afterwards was, however, very successful. It was especially nice to meet and social with the Sealiners from the Southern Cape.

It was brought to the meeting’s attention that a mistake was made when the winner of the competition and the grand prize was awarded. It appears that although Snapper won the Club’s competition for the month of September thanks to his bonus day catches, the actual winner of the day’s competition was Sea Girl (Marietjie Fourie). The prize was separated from the Club’s monthly competition to allow the guests from the Southern Cape to qualify for it too. It was however decided that as the grand prize (weekend at San Remo’s holiday house) had already been awarded to Snapper, it would be inappropriate to withdraw the award at this stage. Mody Dick, Sea Girl’s husband, who made the mistake in awarding the prize to Snapper in the first instance, undertook to reward Marietjie with a weekend away. The Management Committee regrets the oversight but wishes to congratulate Sea Girl with winning the competition on the day. Incidentally, she is the first lady to win a Club competition.

3.3.    Sponsorships and benefits: Ebs sent pm’s to all members regarding the special deals on weights and servicing of reels by Old Salt. Any member that wants to have his reels serviced by Old Salt should contact Kaspaas for a letter of introduction as proof of his or her membership. He has apparently since also become the sole agent for Purglass rods in the Cape.
Members are also reminded of the special deal with Coral Wetsuits in terms of which members get 15% discount on their custom made Farmer John wetsuits. Any member that wants to make use of this deal should contact Kaspaas for a letter of introduction.

DJP indicated that he makes wind-on leaders and members interested in purchasing such should pm him.

3.4.    New members: Two new Sealiners attended the meeting and subsequently decided to join the Club. They are Brother (Tim Cutting) and Eagle Eye (Shane Williams). A heart welcome to both.

3.5.             Future competition dates:  The dates and venues for November and December are:

#  20 November 2010: Fence at the Strand up to the Old Gordons Bay harbour

#  4 December 2010: Macassar (specific area to be confirmed)

It was further decided that dates for future competitions should preferably be identified 3 to 6 months in advance, to enable members to diarise it.
Competitions should also not be at the end of a month.
It was suggested that the best times would be three days before or three days after Spring tide.

3.6.             Struisbaai 2011: The Club has already received an invitation to compete in 2011 as a Club. It was decided that more effort would be made to participate next year. The Club’s own competitions should be arranged to accommodate this competition.

3.7.             Choosing teams to represent SSEC:WC: It was decided that the type of event would dictate who and how members would be selected to represent the Club. The example was used of rather using fit young members to participate in a Galjoen Derby as it would entail substantial climbing and walking.

3.8.             Wearing of Club colours at Club and outside events: While it was agreed that it is important that members should preferably be dressed in Sealine colours, it was agreed that the Sealine branded clothing is relatively expensive. It was therefore decided that a series of fund raiser initiatives should be embarked upon with a view to bolster the Club’s revenue and to assist members to procure Sealine branded shirts, etc. Marthin will discuss the matter with Sealine Admin and will take the initiative with a Rugby prediction competition on the Sealine Forum for this purpose. All members are, however, urged to come forward with more suggestions on how to raise funds for the Club.

3.9.             Poor attendance of Club meetings: As already indicated, the Club’s meetings are poorly attended, which makes it difficult to take decisions that suite everyone.  Measures were even suggested to penalise members that do not attend the meetings. It was, however, decided that no interventions would be taken yet, except to again urge members to make an effort to attend all Club events, including the meetings.

3.10.          The meeting adjourned after DJP (Dirk) did a demonstration of how to cast a casting net.
