Hi guys.
I have been reading the site for a while now and must say that i realy enjoy it.
Just a few questions to you.
I have to take out a few spearo's out on my boat this weekend. We are going to target the Table Bay area.
Is there any area that you are not allowed to do it.
Can you maybe suggest a few spots to try

Regards
George

just watch out for the reserves... I do shore dives and you deal with some ignorant inspectors... table bay, i'm assuming you mean false bay? i'm almost not sure where you can dive off a boat for bottoms in false bay... you would need to find that out before getting into trouble... good luck and let us know what you find...

In Table bay you can try Whale rock, just about a mile on the CT side of Robben island.  There are some wrecks there in the shallows, and big hotties in places, you just need to cover ground to find them.  This time of year you also have a chance of yellowtail there.

There is also the wreck of the Daeyang family a bit closer to CT from there, in about 20m of water, but it comes up to a few metres in places.  Just be careful, you may not dive closer than a mile to the island, and the guys are jumpy about it 'cos of perly poachers!

There is also reef in places off Blouberg and beyond, which is not too far once you are there.  You can also run left and back towards Clifton etc.

All you can really expect in that area are hotties, but you may get a tail surprise if you are lucky and the water is above 14/15 degrees. so keep an eye out for birds, and if it is warm, it may be worthwhile to run a few miles out to the W / SW of Robben.

Good luck,

Tony

Thanks Tony
I was also thinking of Whale Rock and then going to the Lions Paw's.
So it is save to assume that as long as we stay 1NM from RI we will be safe
I will let you guys know what we find.
What lingo do you use for "tight lines"::tight:

Dunno, there doesn't seem to be a general spearo good luck greeting.  Time we figured one out!!!

I'll hopefully be diving Blombos and surrounds on Friday, hoping to find a nice early season cracker!

Blombos is between Duiwenhoks river mouth (East of Witsand) and Jongensfontein (West of Stilbaai)

Enjoy Betty's, you never know what can turn up.  Maasbaai at Hangklip is not far fomr there, and can deliver quality fish at times (like steenbras, kob, geelbek, cracker, and some big galjoen), although generally more in the summer.  But you could easily find a steenbras there now, and the gallies.

Let me know how it goes ...

Cheers,

Tony

Have you ever dived Puntjie, where the duiwenhoks reaches the sea.

I went there once, while at nationals ot Stilbaai and it looks good.

Maybe take the fishing ski, as a diving platform.

Yes, fantastic area.  I shot a 20 kilo kob there only because I couldn't get the one in front of it, which I said was triple the size when I put my fish on the boat!  Mostly limestone reef, so lots of baardies, poensies and all the others there.
