72 Loooong hours

The past 72hours i spent at a private dam.

I learnt alot this weekend about the venue and my shortcomings as abangler. Rigs that ive been using the last three years with total confidence just didnt work this weekend. Maybe its the fish at this new venue that has copped on. Three takes that I can not describe how the hell I got ejected. Every rebait and after every fish I would change complete rig as there are alot of bamboo shoots on the retrive and I werent gonna lose a fish due to a blunt hook.

I worked my arse off this week constantly following the fish and getting them to take the hookbait. More often than not ending up in striking a freshy. Yet again it was proved that its not the bait flavour that would get the fish but rather the location that would get results.

Fishing in manky silt that the odour I can only describe to the smell of the toilet on site in China. The fish would not take a bait if it werent presented 2" below the silt. A bait placed on a drop-of between gravel and silt would not yield a take in 48hours but a bait placed 2feet away in the silt would generate run after run.

Maybe im not a true specimen angler yet as I did not get my 10 by 10kg fish this weekend but the upside is I did better a specie pb.

Now ive got a four day session awaiting me this weekend and hopefully what ive learnt will be of benefit to me.

The "Big Mirror" eluding me yet again only to delay the inevitable meeting with my unhooking mat.

Hey KUSAF.

It would have been alot worse if you didnt learnt anything from the session, lol!

I also didnt get many fish, but I got 2 and I learnt something new about the dam I've been fishing for 8 months... so it was worth it. My confidence is growing because I feel I am getting very close to the "secret recipe" of this specific dam. Cant wait for my next session!!!

Enjoy the 4 day session!

@Kusuf like MC said aleast you learnt something new! But dont give up mate a big mirror will put a smile on your face soon. Its not always your rigs or bait sometimes the carp just doesnt want to feed no matter what you do! My mate from the uk had 7day session and only hooked a nice mid 20 pounder the last day of the session. That gives you the idea of how frustrating specimen fishing can be.

By Tim Richardson.
Many times fish will roll for long periods over baits simply filter-feeding on dissolved substances and other less soluble substances leaching from baits.

I'm not familiar when its spawning season for you okes up north but maybe this could help!
