Awesome and simple to follow info. Very well said. You make it sound allot more simple and user friendly than the guys in the pet shops...

My Pic to follow.

The guys in the pet shops are thinking more of guys that want to keep corals etc, keep imported fish, everthing like on finding nemo, but I think my post is more for the guys that want to catch fish from rock pools etc, any small fish that you can catch locally.

I maybe did make it sound easy, but I dohave lots of stress, for example I might put one fish in, and another is aggresive to him, or you might put a fish in and he starts happily feeding on your corals that you have paid a few bob for. You do have lots of highs and lows, but there is many depths you can go to in this hobby

Hiya

If you want to start off with a marine set-up, on a budget, start off small!! I've had very good success with a standard small tank, no sump, no protein skimmer. I have  some live-rock and then the required sea water (from pet shop). Just make sure that the lid seals well, as you will lose water due to evaporation. Change 1/3 the water every 6 months and thats about it, in terms of maintanance.

The moment you start adding corals and anemone's, you WILL need a protein skimmer, sump, lights, etc.....

My wife has 2 of these small tanks. The one has 2 nemo's and 2 domino's in, with 4 shrimps. The other has a tropical crayfish and a lionfish. My first set of nemo's lasted well over a year.......

Don't have any photo's of my 2m tank, which had oscars in them. I recently stocked it with some small kurper, carp and barbel. Haven't yet had the chance to catch some very small bass yet, but thats next on the list.......

The best Saltwater tank I ever saw was at Mariners. A restaurant in Marina beach. The owner said it took him 3 years to get it working properly. He never had a lot of fish but the ones he did have were beautiful. The tank must have been 2m long or more. It got destroyed in the big storm in 07' and when I was there last year it was still empty.

Mag-man, your tank is very nice.

We used to have a fresh water tank years ago, and I especially loved the kissing geramis.. They are sooo cute!:fswim
