Hi all

Recent / new update!!

Have anyone had any major success at this dam and how was the whole fishing experience? Please don't reply by telling me what fun you had 15 months ago :(

We are going there on the 15th September and therefore i would appreciate recent info please.

Thanx

Rapala/Borat?

Went there on the 18th of August, and yeah well, how shall I put it, I won't waste my:sweartime like that again, sorry to say, but it's my second trip there and believe me it was the last for a very long time, although there are members that think that dam is the dam to be at, I'm of a completely opposite opinion.

There's many other waters I'd much rather go to, and not only based on things like entrance fee's, distances, other costs involved, but for the mere fact that you catch fish at the other destinations.....

Just my :cens2c

Rapala,

What fish species are you wanting to target? Just bass?

Do you have a boat or some other flotation device or are you fishing from the bank?

Sorry for the 20 questions but if we know then maybe we can offer some suggestions.

Bank bass fishing in Gauteng is a difficult one.

Never been to vasfontein so cannot comment.

RDW has good bank fishing spots as most of the spawning grounds are on the camping side of the dam - but it is expensive and can be a very busy dam to visit especially if there is a cast for cash or other bass compo's on.

I fish from a boat so unfortunately I cannot offer you much info on bank bassing close to gauteng. There are other places i would suggest but they are 400km + from pretoria.

Suggest you maybe call Eugene Kruger from SA Bass mag he will be better informed. 012 329 9501/2 good luck

I go fishing on the Vaal allot and use my brother in law's boats there. Let me tell you this, i have not once caught a Bass on that river!!

I wish i could find a decent Bass fishing spot in the vaal triangle ( i have family there so it's handy).

Thanx for the help tho

The vaal can deliver some nice bass. You just need to use the right lure and get the spot.
I am heading out to Vasfontein in about 10min for some mid week fishing. Will let you all know how it goes :)

Do You ever work? You're becoming worse than me:shock:, and I thought :dohI was the KING:first of fishing when others had to work......

Thight Lines though

Soon, perhaps sooner than you think, told Vlakvark to get the guy with the boat so that I can "go look at it, one more time" Thursday evening, and then I'll just give him the BUCKS and leave with the boat attached to the rear of the cruiser.....

I'm suffering from a very common but severe lack of LGF :uzi, so B4 I need 2B checked in at sum Mental venue, I need 2 get onto some water and the bathtub just aint big enough so it doesn't count.....

Don't make jokes like that mate....i gave my girlfriend the whole bass fishing lesson the other night in the swimming pool.

She wants to fish with me so i had to show her in the swimming pool before we leave home :)

I use cheap bass fishing equipment but let me tell you in honest truth that i have never found someone that kicks my butt in bass seduction :)

Anyways, enjoy Vasfontein.

Don't know if any of you know my "Katrol" i'm using tho....it's a Okuma Ultralight, i paid about R 150 for it and it's the best thing i could have done!! No complaints from my side, in fact i'm buying my second one in a few days time :)

Ok I am back home. Got to Vasfontein at about 12:00 after first stopping of at the shops and getting some stuff for my landy. Fished for about 2 hours and landed 5 fish. They are defiantly feeding for spawn. They hitting hard and aggressive. I first started with senko’s but nothing. Not a bite. Then I decided to use a chatter bait and bam. Third cast and I was on, second cast after that and I was on again. I picked up a pattern that they were all lying shallow in about 2ft to 4ft of water next to grass and reeds and between rocks. And I could pick them of one by one when I got to spots that matched the pattern. They were all more or less the same size
