Bouyancy certificate - Help

I am in negotiation's to purchase an 18.6" Ace craft with 2 x 70 evinrudes.

The current owner inherited the boat form his dad and does not know much about boats.

He does not know whether his dad had a bouyancy certificate for the boat or not as he has hardly used the boat.

If I purchase the boat what will it take to get a bouyacy certificate, and what are some of the things I have to check for on the boat.

Am I correct in assuming that 18.6' boat with a certified skipper and all the correct equipment can go out to sea via the harbour mouth.

All advice and info will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Khani

Try Ace Craft Boat Builders - Cell: 072 211 2417. They will assist with the certificate.

Howzit trevz,

No I didn't get the boat.

the problem I ended up with is basically,

The guy (in JHB) selling the boat has no papers for the boat or trailer , nor does he have any proof of ownership.

The other problem was that I was promised a mooring - to purchase (The reason I decided to buy a boat)  and this did not come through as well.

But I am still hopefull of getting something in the near future.

Howzit guys,

I have a 16' Cobra cat with 2x60hp Yamaha. She's an absolute beaut. If you guys are still looking for a boat, you can't go wrong with a Cobra Cat. Alternatively, get a hold of Bill Harrison at Natal Caravan and Marine in Pinetown. They are agants for Kosi Cat, which is also a good boat. Khani, to answer your previous question, you can launch from the harbour even with a 4.5m boat. I've seen many going out. I launch from Point yacht club nearly every weekend. You just need to get the necessary permits, because the harbour patrol can get very uptight if you don't have the correct paperwork.
Cheers.

Hi Mornay Ruth,

Thanks for that info.

Is this the same Bill Harrison formerly from outdoor marine in ordinance Road.

I bought an Interceptor 180 with a 115 hp Yamaha from him in 1992/3.

Yep, Bill is quite a popular guy around these parts. He certainly knows his stuff when it comes to boats, and he generally gives good deals.
Well done on buying your boat, Trevs! It would be great to check it out. I posted a pic of mine on the boating gallery. Where will you be launching from? If you need any help with related issues please feel free to ask.

Cheers
Mornay
