well done, lovely fish there niel. have been wondering if guys would start getting poensies as well as coppers on jig. seems like they will.
-sorry for being a real greenie but, if the guys do start nailing these fish on jigs, i hope us sportfisherman are responsible and put back more than we take.

as i fish a lot of comps we cant take bottoms out so ive put more back than ive caught...the problem with jigging is it hammers the bottoms and especially the rock cods ...and a lot of the times they come up dead specially if they caught deep ...its a concern to everyone.....and the worst is if its at a place like vidal or soddies where they really do get big and you cant keep them ...its a major waste to watch such a great fish drift away dead to become shark bait

TW, Vidal and Sodwana are bottom fish no go areas. Thus any fish caught cant be kept or used in comps. So as Neil says its a waste catching them and due to the depth, they inevitably die. This is a common problem for guys jigging up that way.

Gents its fairly easy to feel the difference between a gamefish and a bottom when your jigging, unfortunatly we are putting our jigs in the bottomfish zone when targeting AJ,kings etc. So when we are in the sanctuary areas just wind slowly when you feel its a bottom, and have a stash of Release weights handy so you can get the fish back down so it does not suffer the effects of Barotrauma?

here is a post on release weights.

dorado you worked for IOTC ?? any dogies when you were at mafia

Yeah, i was working for the IOTC, we fished around Mafia for a few months and outside in the channel tagging tuna and i did not see a single Doggie, we spent a few hours on Lazarus banks during one of the trips where the big ones are supposed to be, but all we managed were some Jobfish, snappers and rainbow runners!

How do you know about the IOTC? Have you had dealings with them?
