hi all

we got to Salsbury island at about 5am(after getting lost in the maze that is Durban harbour) and we were welcomes by the organisers Heleen and Gerard with hot coffee and biscuits!

we then met our fishing partner Theon and started getting the tackle ready! by 5:30 our lines was in the water! the weather was great, with a slight eastery keeping the air nice and crisp! we were greeted with a wonderful sunrize over the mouth of the harbour just as the first fish were being landed! to mention all the fish that were caught will take too long and i don't think i can remember all of them anyway!, but in total more than 250 fish were landed on the day, with alot of wala-wala, kingfish, grunter, moonies and snappers! the fish were caught on all tipes of bait with sardine and chokka getting the most pulls! mud prawn and pink prawn also did the trick! our angler Theon(team Sealine) caught 13 fish earning him 4th place overall ! first prize was won with a total of 32 fish! the two biggest fish was a Threadfin Kingfish of 1.4kg's and a Grunter of 2.4kg's! someone also hooked into a duckbill that unfortunatly stripped him as most people were fishing with light tackle!

Dean from ESA was also there with a cameraman to get some footage of the days fishing, and to assist some of the anglers! they also taged and realesed some kingfish and rockcod! Portnet also had a demo with a tugboat, the Navy did a demo on  their rescue methods and diver training, and the Airforce sent a Oryx helicopter for a flyby!

all and all it was a really magical day, that just showed again that this sport we love so much can be enjoyed by anyone! and seeing some of the guys faces when catching there first ever fish was truely very very rewarding!

a special thank you to all the people that made this day happen, and a big thank you to the South African Navy for letting us use their facilaties we will defenately be there next year!
