In times when Bass are about to spawn, it's easy to determine the sex of a fish landed/boated/caught as the females normally has swollen bellies from the ammount of eggs they're carrying.   Now the Question is how do you determine this when in the rest of the year they're not filled with eggs?

Does anybody know?

I was thinking that perhaps there is some type of indicating factors like, colouration, markings, perhaps size of dorsal, pectoral, tail fins, anything that could indicate the sex?
