Hi Guys

I've fished Margate a lot, the pier used to fish really well. I've got plenty Garrick and Kob there on live shad. Further South by the tidal pool, you've got Bird rock and a little point about 40 metres south of that, with a nice gully. Got some nice garrick there as well.

Years ago, I invested in timeshare near the pier and spent every spare weekend there. Sadly I havent been there for a while, very nice little town.

One night, I was fishing on my own at night, to the right of Lee rocks with live shad and had 2 Daga of about 20kg each when the whole of Margate had a Blackout.
Took me about an hour to get off the rocks cause I never beleived in torches.

Guys, Girls - Yesterday the Shad were BOILING, Shot for Shot. Your bait hits the water you strike, you reel it in and there you have it.

On a sader note, the Parks Board really have to do a better job, when the fish are running like this.

Certain people were catching 100's and runningthem up to their cars. Undersize, no problem, we will take it.

One ****** was pulling them in and then cutting the tails off the undersized ones, so that they can not be measured properly.

Another was filleting them alive and wasting most of the fish. He filled up a amall cooler box wiwth his fillets.

Very frustrating to see people abuse our sport like this.

Besides that, succife to say we had an awesome fish braai afterwards and gave thanks for a wonderful day and a bountiful catch.

You need to get hold of Peter Masyn from the Parks Board - sorry but I don't have his cell number anymore.

The okes there are savages. I posted about this very thing a while back. Parks Board, what Parks Board?. Never see them. The rogue fishermen. Typical African mentality. Live for today, screw tomorrow. The same okes in the pubs all along the south coast that have the biggest mouths are the worst perps. The Smith report from 1979 warned of the Shad being fished out and restrictions were revised etc., What has happened since?, not much. Who gets bust for limit, size infringements?. The locals, no way. The Vaalie that doesn't know any better about what it is he's caught etc. I've witnessed an "ex" fishing buddy load a Corsa bakkie with maybe 50 shad and do the sale from his cell phone and then drive to a panel shop in Durban to deliver. R20 a fish. Not bad. A grand a day. Anyone know Pat Symcox?. Ask him who the worst perps are. He's warned these dudes over and over. Nobody cares. Time to go undercover maybe. Maybe these people think these are just oversize Sards and there is a never ending supply. It STINKS.

Yea, I dont take my phone fishing with me, but I would have called the Parksboard yesterday if I had it with me.

The guy filleting the fish while they will still alive was sick. I said something to him, but he ignored me and carried on. It was hard not to smack him, but he was an old bullie and I would have probably got busted, which is the last thing that I need.

Anyway, it was a great days fishing never the less. Pitty there were no game fish around, I would have loved a nice garrick or something vris to give me a good fight.

Pretty busy with work today, but will go down later.

Cheers

Shane

Work has killed my life for the last week, but I went down to Seabrook Rocks, yesterday and caught a nice Shad and 2 HUGE mullets. Making fishcakes out of them. Also got a small Shad, was going to use him for a live bait, but I did not have the heart.

BEST NEWS EVERE, is that I caught myfirst Garick today. A small one about 35 centimetres, but a Garick no less.

He was so beautiful and I was so proud and greatful that I let him go.

I love this sport. It has brought so much joy and happiness to my life.

Chat soon

Shane

Hi PJ!

Do you do any light tackle lure fishing (dropshot)? We're coming down in July. Maybe we could hook up?

Mike

Hi. yea, I got some dropshot stuff. Have not done too much of it, as the Shad and friends that are running here, would chow it to ribbons.

It would be great to hook-up, give me a shout and we go fishing and have a braai afterwards.

Things have been really quiet. Pinkies devouring all bait. Not much action. There were some Sardine netters on the beach today, but they sped off, si I assume that there was some action elsewhere.

I have not caught anything (worth keeping) for 2 weeks now.

Hungry for some action !!

The depeche mode thing is just a joke, but lots of people stop me and ask me if I am HIM.

I dont know those dudes. I went to Northlands Boys High.

Terrible fishing today, both morning and afternoon.
I lost a nice lure and watched 2 fools almost drown.

I also had to assist a young kid who was almost washed away, while his grandfather obliviously fished on the rocks 30 metres away. He was about 4 years old. I could not belive it.

Anyway, praying for better days tomorrow. I miss my free, healthy fish diet.
