Some help from the Experts please

Hiya Guys,

With neilg's boat near completion I want to start getting tackled up. A recent trip to a few tackle shops had me taking a seat every time I looked at the price of boating tackle!

Looking for an honest opinion, advice and clarity from the many experts that surf this section.

The rod below is made from IM7 Carbom fibre...is that good?

it's a two piece rod and comes in dif lengths...1.65, 1.80, 1.98 and 2.1 meters...whats the best length?

The two shorter length rods are rated 80 -150 grams and the longer rods are rated 150 - 200 grams...what the best all round weighted to use?

The guides are rated for braid use so I have no concerns there. I am however using a Daiwa Oceano...would the first guide need to be larger?

Your input and help would be much apreciated.

Regards,

Trophy

Thats a nice looking stick Brett....

Any more details about what it is? As in what brand?

Tricky thing with High Crabon content boat rods and any other high carbon content sticks is they are brittle.... but if you've got the right combination of Carbon to glass, then you are sorted, which this rod most likely does looking at the compenentry which looks pretty damn good from the pics.....

The First Stripper looks decent size enough for jigging...

ANy more details?

As Matt says, I'd defintely go with the heavier outfit...

Time is the ONLY THING holding me back, seaworthy and radio licence I will sort out quick quick.

Maybe tomorrow or Thursday.

Last week, I picked up the Trevala MH at Somerset Sports in somerset mall for R699, it is the spinning version with the larger guides.

They also had the beastmaster jigging rods for R599

I was hoping to get out this weekend with the rod, so can comment too much on the rod

OK Guys! Everybody?

Eastern Cape the "neglected baby?" Potential Monster Coppers lurking there..........? Off PE, sort of untouched? Time to have some people destroyed on the weekend gear.

Neil as per chats? RIY banks research is going on - slowly from a shore based perspective....can't get the guys to deliver what is asked from them as a business, therefore accurate info will be a miracle...

Guys need to get the Trevalla/Beastmaster/Speedmasters working - maybe a few bends later?

On the "girl" side? When is she being surveyed?

NeilG,

You need mu........ch bigger scuppers!

Have respect for you but when the boat  should scoop some green water those tiny little holes are not gonna help much.

Also proper rails for the oke's gonna work with the anchor up front

Heavens forbid a Cat had to come fetch you!

Thika slinks away.....

Sooooo

you're actually right, I'm just waiting for a certain friend here on Sealine that made promises about offcuts SS so that I can make new rails, but I don't want to rush him, it's only been 4 months.

So when I get it that problem will be sorted

Scuppers, nah they big enough, and there is also 2 X BILGE PUMPS.

A cat come and fetch me, now that is LOOKING FOR TROUBLE. More likely that I will have to "help" them back to the harbour ...

DON'T GET ME STARTED (I'm quite easy) :fbash

Good morning Neilg

The post was actually half serious!

My boat has REALLY big scuppers courtesy of Ace-craft and I am going to increase drainage off the deck at least 5- fold further.

A while ago I really had a big bee in my bonnet about this issue. See:

http://www.sealine.co.za/view_topic.php?id=18863&forum_id=19&page=1

My cabin is recessed so I am also going to fit a bilge pump maybe electric, maybe manual and move my batteries forward to or into a dry place. At the moment they are between the scuppers on the deck at the back which is just stupid!

If I built a waterproof box for them, how could one ventilate the hydrogen out of such a box ?

I am seriously thinking of putting them under the bunks in the cabin because I want to keep the boat's centre of gravity low as possible. The waterproofing (should the cabin flood) and ventilation of the batteries got me stumped still so I would appreciate ideas from you or any one else

Regards and pasop die blou Maandag!   :)
