I am making wind-on leaders and have seen some guys using heat-shrink tube over the Dacron to Mono bind. Do you think that the heat source from required to shrink the tube will also damage the mono ? At this time, I'm double winding from the back of the Dacron, over onto the mono and back over the Dacron again. It's tight and looks great, but takes time to finish.

I'll give it a go, maybe also try submerging them in a cup of boiling water?

Reefers Way works also , U can use a lighter , but must run the base of flame over heat shrink , not the top of flame cos that is where you get the max heat !!! My 2cs !!!

I think one of the more important things is to make sure that the tubing you use is as close to the mono thickness as possible so that you don't have to apply tons of heat and also to make sure it goes through the rod guides without a hitch.

I have to agree with you here !!! & also to add , you sometimes get some cheap heat shrink that takes forever to shrink , this can effect yr mono !!!

Still the best of all to use is AIR SHRINK. Just can't find a place that sells it anymore.

Where you need to be careful with heat is if you were to use Braid made from Spectra or Dyneema fibre. It's got very low melting point.

Andries... here's a business opportunity for you bud... buy the 80m tins, split them up and sell them off in 5m pieces for a huge profit...! There's definitely a market for them... only problem is going to be preserving the shorter pieces - stop them from being exposed to air...
