Your most memorable catch? how, when and why?

All of us have PB catches on our profiles, but that does not tell the story of that catch! I think it would be very interesting to know from you guys and gals what your most memorable catch was, when and how it was caught and why that fish stands out for you?? add a pic if you have one?

i'll start

i am still a novice when it comes to PB's but for me it must be the little Kingie i caught in Durban harbour about a month ago. when we set out the day i had 2 fish i wanted to get, a nice size grunter and a kingie on dropshot, so when we started fishing, i got out the berkley minows and started casting, 2 and a half hours and nothing happened, so i decided to put down the lures and join the others with the cracker baits and at least get a grunter for the pan! there was no problem with the grunter, as all of us got at least one decent fish, but our time was running out and i just felt something was missing from the day! then out of nowhere my little elbe estuary rod bent almost double and my little daiwa reel screamed, at first i thought this could be the grunter i was looking for, but after about 5min of fighting, it came up next to the boat, and i saw it was a small Kingie! i was out of my skin happy, i almost capsized the 16ft cat!lol   ::S

it stands out for me because it was the first time i got the fish i was targeting! even if it was not on dropshot!  :pad::

Memories seem to fade so easy, maybe it is good idea to jot them down every once in a while.I have lots of memorable catches ,maybe because I still get thrilled to the bone with every catch, yet the most vivid one in recent time must be the yellowtail/blackfin Kingy I got from Stebel rocks over Dec holidays,to be more exact early Jan.The hustle and bustle of the Hols were nearly over as I set out to catch a few shad on a Sunday afternoon near dusk,I arrived at the rocks with three anglers busy calling it a day,one elderly gentleman was still spinning and scanning  around for the odd Kingy which frequent the area after certain weather patterns.I casted my shad bait as the other two gents left and  I receded to a little pinnacle on which one can plonk your ass down if your'e lazy like I was on the day.

A couple of things then happened fairly simultaneously, first I saw a beautifull Delta chrome spoon, complete with 30cm of piano wire tied to the swivel and wound up in a neat roll, lying right there on the pinnacle, next as I turned around to tell the spinning gent about his forgotten spoon I got a serious shad bite,.noticing that he was already 250 odd yards away, and striking the shad happened in one go,whilst turning my head back from searching for him and seeing the "boil" of Kingy's feeding 80 yards to my left happened in a blur, nearly as blurry as the shad looked while anxiously winching it in on my Trini 30, barely touching water.

Up onto the rocks came the shad, and in what can be called one of the few advantages of fishing and smoking,I burnt off my leader, and tied on this chrome spoon that was just lying there. Now casting this 3-4 oz spoon into the boil with a Purglass 350/5 and aforementioned Trini loaded with .52 was about as easy as fishing Stebel rocks without getting wet ,near impossible, anyway after the 3rd or 4th cast I was in the money,I managed to hook a yellowtail/blacktip Kingy of 77 cm forklength, and this on another bloke's spoon.

I tagged it, released it and obviously wanted to try for more, but as happens a lot of times, two other anglers who had seen me land this fish were already on the rock that I had been standing on and had casted out baits, which made any further spinning near impossible. Not wanting to ruin the 'magic" that I had just experienced,I just let it be and left with a feeling of disbelieve and joy that is only experienced by anglers .

Will I remember it ,for sure, forever.

mine must be my 2.5 kilo yf kingfish i got at TJetty here in richards bay. I was fishing with my ultralight setup, a litte okuma ultralight 10 spinning reel and a selfbuilt up rod with fuji eyes and a new real seat that was originally from a kids outfit.

i was playing with the smaller fish on mini sandworms, dropped my lure straight off the side and got HAMMERED! by this little guy. on two kilo line and a 5foot rod it was a beautiful fight. i got him round to the rocks to land him where a ballie kindly helped me get the fish out. lucky for me he was fast enough to grab it when the leader broke right there on the rocks!...the best part was releasing this royal beast back into the ocean, much to everyone elses disgust!

i didnt have my camera and a guy there promised to send me the pic but never happened...

its in my memory though!

Most fun and up yours catch was at blue lagoon couple of years ago was closed season for shad, but you would not say so , the guys were murdering the shad, hiding them running to cars and back ,.very stressed out i rigged up for grunter, had my back to the water watching the pandemonium unfold, phoned MCM, TRIED TO RELAX , next thing my rod nearly gets pulled out of my hands, nice run good strong head nods, nice fight. one lovely 6 kg grunter. This raised a few eyebrows from the on lookers, next cast was a huge shad, that went straight back much to some peoples dismay.

Next cast relaxed a bit watched Mcm arrive fisherman ran left right and center, fishing rods and boxes and bags were left and disowned, was quite a show, bang another huge pull long run head nod, good fight. nice grunter on the beach, released, had my one to eat, about the same size, return to my bag and a fisherman is sitting by my stuff, Mcm taking his stuff, a quick whisper to Mcm ad he was taken to.

Good day for me, back home before 11

Mine ???

It was a really awesome day, got to the beach just as the sun was coming up over the sea. Surf was perfect ! had a look around and noticed a nice hole to the left of us, baited up and cast next to it. Slid out a nice bonnie with a pink duster. went back to my box to bait up an edible rig, while i was still tying up a red-eye bellie and chokka mix, i heard the ratchet go off !

I calmly walked to my rod, pulled it out of the stand, and heita ! Fish on ! after about 40 minutes, with the help of some gorgeous chicks in these teeny bikinis, i landed a Raggie of about 120kgs !

Dragged it back to the water, and recast the same rod.

Went back to prepare another slide, and decided to cast in the edible set up, did so and strted preparing a chokka to slide

Guess what ! i heard it then !!! My alarm clock telling me to get up !

neatly baited up cracker prawn on my light tackle outfit, at my favourite fishing spot at the blind canal, pull back to cast and bang! 30kg tree fish right there! Who wouldve known fish get so big there? Took some time unhooking and releasing this mighty, powerful creature, but it went back as it was with alot of life still left in it! Had the cheek to even smack me in the face as I let it go...

But on a serious note, I think it mustve been my first cuda. Trolling to the patinga wreck, three rods out, only me and my dad on the boat... Next thing we hear all three reels screaming at once! I thought we hooked some submersed object, but my extactic 12 year old body couldnt stand still and I grabbed a rod and it turned out we had a triple up! That dont happen everyday... Got a decent cuda and so did my dad, but we lost the third one due to lack of extra crewmen haha

Mazeppa,

April 2008 - decided to fish the island for some pan fish, water was clean so didn't have much hope.
When it was low enough went and got some redbait, left some pieces in the sun to smell a bit much and was soon ordered to remove it elsewhere as the dogs where itching to roll in it....
Whe the tide started to turn made my way to the island fishing off the left hand side near the front.
First cast not 5min in, pulled out a bream of 2.5kg, next cast 5min later a cracker of 4.2kg, 10min later another bream of 3kg, 20min later a cracker of 5kg....this kept going on for the next 4hrs until the waves where too big...tally for the day was 7 bronze bream and 5 crackers.
Kept 2 bigger bronze bream and 2 bigger crackers - the rest went back.....was an amazing 4hrs - you could see the big fish swimming when the waves rolled in and the sun caught their scales, they where feeding so close.
Was back there early the next morning on an outgoing tide - not even a touch.

Was still stiff from the previous day :)
Crackers gave me a whine on 10kg maxima line and shimano tr200, with 14ft kingfisher two piece.

Club comp this past season, I got my first Bronzie, 53kg. Was sitting on the back of the Bakkie, very quiet day. I coolly got up and started walking to my rod about 50m away and told the guys I must go reel in my first bronzie. I got to the rod looked up at the tip and it got pulled flat! Fish on!!! Was a grueling battle in the heavy surf, previous biggest fish was a measly 5kg. Fish got me top in the club on the day and 6th in the comp! Whooooop Whoooop!!!

It's the fish in my profile pic!

Well this fish made me think twice whether or not fishing was a fun and relaxing sport ! We head out to the deep on the Charter boat Wizard 2, partly crewing and partly fishing basically a free ride. After we got to the grounds and started chumming and baiting for the guests i put the last stick out for my self which was more of a long fin number well as Murphy would have it a brute of a yellow fin snacked on my offerings and made his way down to his local pub just north of Australia. Well to cut a long story short 2.5Hrs of blood sweat and foul language and a harness that just made things difficult the fish was boated and i was finnished - more than happy to help the rest of the boys get there arms stretched & backs broken and hurl abuse.
