Hi guys

Just wanted to raise a few questions that i have, as i'm really getting excited for this casting trails and need to find out some more info.

1. Anyone know where it's going to be held and times?

2. How many casts are made per person?

3. What line restrictions are there? (0.40mm - 0.60mm?)

4. Any other restrictions on tackle?

Thanks guys. Appreciate any info

Hey Dino,

Here is some info.

Line 0.50mm is the required diameter. If 0.47mm is used then they take off 5m. If 0.52mm is used they add on 5m to the cast. They will "mic" the line - Francois did it last year. There is penalties / add ons etc worked out for the various diameter lines eg. 0.57mm etc.

There are 3 cast for distance with a sinker - from what I recall 2 of them count.

There are 2 accuracy cast at a drum - no practice throw allowed - you start with say 10 points for this and every meter away from the drum they deduct a point.

There are 2 accuracy throws at a drum about 80m away with a "dummy" bait. No practice cast allowed for this.

It is required that you use the tackle as you would at a National - rod, reel & line.

This year we also gonna do some bait demos, how to make a wind-on and trace demos. Do you have some ideas or a few things you can do for us at this demo? It only needs to be a 15-20 minute demo. Will have 5 or 6 guys doing the demos.

Call me if you need more info.

The CG EXCO meeting is tomorrow night - I know that Mark is attending - you also welcome to attend.

It is held at a school in Benoni fields. It used to start at 12:00 but I think it will be earlier this year. To be held Saturday 9'th May. This may be changed tomorrow night though - will have to see.

Awsome

Thanks Jason. Really excited for it, can't wait.
The problem is that a line is always thicker then on the stated label. do they use a micrometer to measure the thickness or just ask what diameter you have on your reel?

Well i'm not sure if i could do a demo they haven't seen b4, but maybe just have a session where the top guys explain why they think they have been so successful and share with the other guys what their strong pionts are.
Eg Work rate, bait presentation, distance casting, being strong mentally, ect ect. Otherwise i think all the most important points are already being covered hey.
Nice work Jason, well done on making this trails something everyone that goes, beneficial

Hey D,

As Kumz mentioned -  I think there is a minimum on the leader as well.

All the details will be confirmed tomorrow night.

The line is measured with a micrometer - my 0.52mm miked out a 0.55mm last year.

I think what you consider to be common knowledge is new to loads of the guys who have never fished a National. It is always good to see how someone elso does something - sometimes it is something you used years back and forgot about - and perhaps it is a better way of doing for todays conditions? I for one am always interested to see how someone else make certain baits, traces etc.

You never too old to learn.

I think the main focus will be on WP fishing for the B Nats next year as well as E/L for the A.

Probably Blue skates, Hounds, Raggies, Kob, Lessers, Bronzies, Bronze Bream will be main fish of focus? Any others I left out here?

I would really appreciate some help from guys like you, Mark, Johan, Okkie, Kumz for the organising of these demos etc.

Well i'm more then happy to help out in any way you guys feel i could be beneficial. Just let me know what more or less you want me to demonstrate (baits, traces, ect ect...). I think there's lots of fishing stuff floating around this brain of mine that i recall under the nessessary circumstances.

Well in my experience of both these areas are the following:

Border main fish to target - Blue rays, Sandies, Raggies, Cob, Bronze bream.

WP main fish to target - Bronzies, Diamonds, Hounds, Spotties, Raggies, Duckbills, Sandies, Cob, Blue rays, Cow sharks.
