  • when purchasing bait, make sure you keep it frozen between the store and the freezer at home.If you dont have a cooler box handy wrap it in newspaper, this will help a bit.
  • make sure you bait is sealed in plastic to prevent freezer burn, freezer burn is not ideal as it dehayrates your bait.
  • when using vacum packed bait, puncture the packet before defrosting the bait otherwise the vacum process will remove the blood and juices.
  • when you intend going fishing wrap your bait in newspaper then put it in your cooler box it helps to keep it longer giving you the opportunity to put it back in the freezer.
  • Reffreezing thawed bait is not ideal, however don't dicard this bait rather have a bag or bucket in the freezer for it and later it can be used as chum.
  • Keep your bait frozen at all times and it will stay in top condition.

 The bait that was available in all the shops (Southcoast) was very bad this year. The sards was worst. Did get some fresh mackrel from a fish factory, but their sards were also bad. Where do you guys buy bait?

 Hey Cobusl

If you get down to durban, try Kingfisher. they situated on Hunter Street. They have a good variety of bait. They sometimes get alot of sugar mackeral.

Also try the Charter guys in Durban harbour. They can also supply you with bait.
