Krugersdrift Dam for Barbel

Hi spent the morning at Krugersdrift with a new mate Eugene popping for Barbel and 'dipping' for carp. I was lucky to catch a small baby barbel popping an art lure no luck on the fly. Eugene landed 2 barbel one popping on art lure and the other using his rod as a 'roepstok' wiggling the tip in the water and hooking a big barbelright at his feet.

Nice! Without a shadow of a doubt the best popping water in SA in my opinion. When I was still living in Bloem the wife and I would be there popping almost every weekend. Just need to get the pop pattern/volume right and that dam goes from zero to absolute hero.

Will never forget my wife calling a 15kg cat small! :lol:1

Still new to popping and trying my best. Popping isn't easy and you have to be patient which is hard. I cast off a lure this weekend (forgot the damn bailarm and it failed at the fg knot between braid and leader).

To my horror and disgust I saw the popper disappear soon after, so ashamed. Almost gave up popping for good right then and there. But I know I'll be back and with vengeance soon.

Just keep at it. Our best times was late afternoon. Play around with the rate/loudness of the pop. I used to carry two rods on me whilst wading. One for popping and one for dipping carp in the shallows as I came across them.

FYI, the biggest we got out of Krugers was a 20.6kg fish. There are many, many fish in there over 16kg.
