Good day. I have a screaching sound on the port outboard engine when I engage gear. I have greased the shaft and the bush in the lower unit. I have replaced the oil in the gearbox. I have replaced the impeller. Any one with some experience in this regard?

Hi Jaco. Does it only screech when you engage gears or all the time when in gear, like when you are travelling? If it is the latter then it could be prop shaft bearings are shot.

Hi Guppygetta. Its only when I engage gear and at low rpm. As soon as I increase rpm, the screaching disapear. Attachment: 20200111_160629.jpg (Downloaded 75 times) Last edited on Tue Oct 13th, 2020 06:43 pm by Jaco Scheepers |

Maybe the dog clutches are worn. When you engage gears the dogs rub together before they go in. The faces of the dogs could be rough causing them to screech.
