Bionic Finger on Grinder Rods

Howist guys OK...I'm almost there with the grinder set up.. So Ive got my reels..braid n everything....I want to go n get a custom built rod. I know the fuji winch must be upside down... I know the guides must be k series... The only thing that's puzzling me is where exactly to place the bionic finger... On the left side of reel seat or right side of reel seat.. This rod is going to be a 400/5 Slimline T53 gona have it custom built by Gremlins. Just needed some advice on where exactly to place the bionic finger.

And one more question.... I just want to find out. I also want to build up a 400/3 SL does this require a bionic finger or will the finger suffice? I want to use this for shad, spinning and other medium fishing. Any inputs highly appricaited. Thanks guys.

The bionic finger must just go wherever is comfortable for you. If you use it with your left hand it should go slightly to the right (when looking at the rod from the back the way you would when using it).
I have a 12' set up with which I cast 4-5oz, 40lb mainline with 80lb braid leader - I do not have a bionic finger on this and it works fine. Just remember to tighten the drag before casting, in case something goes wrong - if the drag / braid slips you WILL cut yourself.
With my heavier set ups (14', 60z+ sinkers) I have the bionic finger on - that is too much weight / energy in the cast to take chances with.

You can always cable tie (tape) on the bionic finger and then have it set once you have your placement 100%.

Have you casted with a bionic finger before? Maybe try a casting glove as well, some prefer it over the bionic finger.

Who told you that the reel seat has to be upside down..?

With regards to the breakaway cannon, dont fix it to the rod. Ask you builder to just leave a space for it. That way you can mess around with different placements till you find the sweet spot.

Honestly I love fishing with a multiplyer... But I got two beautiful coffee grinders as gifts for my birthday with the braid n I do have a few spare rods I wanted to build up for grinder set up..
N No I have never fished with a bionic finger before... Infact I have no clue as to which side to even throw from.
With a multiplyer I throw from my left side with my left arm up on the rod grip n my right hand thumb on the reel spool. I would like to get as close as possible.
So let's say I wish to place the bionic finger on the rod( casting from the left side left arm up n right hand holding the bionic finger, where do I place the bionic finger on the rod?

Do lighter rods /3s n /4s require a bionic finger? Thanks guys

Hi

First off the reel seat is in the Normal position ie uplocking (not upside down)

The bionic finder is only really necessary if you are casting 6oz+ total weight

Bionic finger can be placed in the centre of the reel seat.

It has however become the norm to place the Bionic finger under the tip of the index finger used for the cast.

So if you are holding the reel with the left hand you fit the right side of the reel or vice versa

In my experience and for me, the thickness of the braid leader always determines the use of the bionic finger.

Eg:

- up to 120lb braid leader - use finger or glove as this braid is thin and can cut you quite easily.

- 150lb braid leader and above, there is no need for either. This combination of the coating and the line being thicker reduces chances of being cut.

I fished a 5 day tournament late last year with no glove and didnt make use of a bionic finger even though some of my rods are equipped with it. No issues, no cuts, nothing.

All in all, I would rather use a glove than a bionic finger.

But thats just me.
