I recently mentioned to someone that I'm considering converting my Blue Marlin SS50/100/430 into a grinder rod.

He advised me against it. Said that because of the high carbon content, that plenty of guys who had converted their 100 series rods to grinders had broken them.
I realize that this is anecdotal but would like to confirm before I start the process. Rod is rated for 5-6oz, so will be an edibles rod only.

Anyone experience breakages after conversion?

I've built new grinder rods on the 40-100-430 and 50-100-430 without issue, both 3 piece rods.

Thanks for your input Tackle-Holic. Good to know. Still considering the conversion. Ended up buying an Assasin Triple X spin in 5-7oz (after first getting rid of some unused rods).
