Struisbaai

We went down to Struisbaai for the school holiday.

My son Daniël, 12 years old, Wanted to catch a shark over 100kg.
My brother in law, also Pieter, just wanted to catch something.

So I had my work cut out.

On our first day on the beach Daniël picked up what we believed was one of those black pylies. It took about 500m in 55min and got stuck after which we unfortunately lost it. Never gained a meter on that one.

The next day Daniël was "vas" again. He handled the fight very good and after about 25 min landed his very first shark over 100kg.
A nice female Raggie of 131kg. Obviously I was very very proud.

The next day in-law Pieter's daughter, Naomi asked if she can have a turn. We were not a full hour on the beach when the rod went down. I set the hook and handed her the rod. I coached her during the fight and you guessed it, she landed the biggest. A nice 144kg female.

Next up was Daniël again with a 110kg female.
He was very pleased. Who can say that at 12 years old your first two Raggies are over 100kg.

More family joined us and of course, Orville from Canada, had to get a turn as well. 108kg female. He also did not wait long for the rod to go down.

We landed so many sandies we stopped counting. This gave Daniël chance to practice baiting up, casting with the SL30 and landing fish on his own. I must say that he came a long way, taking in to consideration that we stay in Jhb and he does not get the chance that often.
Between the sandies I got a nice blue ray on our last fishing day.

The evening of the last day Daniël and I decided to go for one last cast each. I got this small one but did not measure it.

During the trip we managed to land 9 Raggies in 7 days using 2 shark rods, all on yellow tail head bought at Fish and More.

I feel that we were very blessed and it was our best trip by far. Can not wait to go back.
