Hi Guys

I popped in at Lin Xiong Seafood in Monte Vista opposite the Engen garage by the Pick and Pay. Next to the Chinese supermarket in the side street. There where spotted grunter in freezer at least 10-15 of them.
I didnt take any pics. If anyone can go take pics and confirm. They are packed in the extreme right hand side freezer against wall next to another imported fish with spots on top half of body.

Please check it out someone and confirm, Im out of town for next 2 weeks..

Probably came out of some gillnet..Grunter are a no-sale species so they got poached somewhere.

Apparently the chinese trawlers are coming close inshore at night on the east coast and vacuuming up ton upon ton of grunter (among others) on the bottom. That I hear from the by and by, nothing verified. I doubt though that the fish caught by them would get landed and sold here though, that will get taken to chinese factory boats and sent back to china..?! Where are the big red fast boats? No diesel again?!

Hope this gets to DAFF's attention!

Don't believe those stories about Chinese trawlers. There are plenty of local boats working on the east coast who would squeal very quickly and very loudly if they spotted foreign vessels in our waters. I think illegal Gillnetters in our estuaries is far more likely.

I heard that from a chokka skipper among others..worse north of E London I've also heard where there are less commercial boats and eyes. I wonder whether they are licenced foreign longliners operating in close at night, or they could be like the poaching trawlers that were suspiciously caught, detained and then released in 2016..I think it is no secret that vessels are coming in close off the TK at night, especially close to marine reserves, like the last ones caught that had enough time running away to possibly dump whatever they had caught illegally, at sea.

These grunters are being seen all over and monte vista is far from where nice grunters like that are caught? So that indicates something organised as opposed to some local poaching. They either came out of an estaury or from an inshore trawl. I also wonder what happens to the tons of grunter that are legally trawled by the inshore hake trawl, where I think they are allowed to sell all the bycatch, I wonder what happens with a species like grunter that is a no-sale species, maybe someone can enlighten me?

Go take a deeper look in those freezers and you will be shocked what you find...

Have been there a few times for bait, and I could not believe my eyes what popped up while scratching through those freezers!!!

So we moan here etc.

Has any1 with the evidence reported this to the authorities?

Its lekker to debate and speculate the issue here on the net.

When do we stop becoming guilty of knowing and yet not reporting it.
