In kort - ek moet n nuwe Shimano Vengance 8ft aanskaf. Daai kolsterte was minder as 30 minute later geeet - net sout en peper oor die kole. Daar is dam nie n beter smaak as so n vars vis nie.

Mooi kolholle daai. Hys eintlik n lekker bak-vis.

Yip, pound for pound Dassies kick hard! Whenever I hook a +1kg Dass, I'm convinced that it's a proper galjoen until I see it. Always surprised by the power they put out.

This last weekend in that massive storm surge I was determined to get out - so I packed a bag of white mussels and 3/0 traces and did some long distance casting to get away from the huge swells. Landed 2 dassies and 1 went home for starters! Great eating BUT you have to bleed them by cutting the gills and then I find they taste very good in the butter pan once floured and seasoned. If you don't bleed immediately they taste terrible - much like unbled galjoen. Get rid of the iodine in the blood and you have a really nice tasting fish.

Depends on what they have been eating..I notice the ones from my local spot are tastier than the spot I caught the last ones..Also bleeding them and ike jime makes a difference with all. A chef mate once told of them being the best of our fishes for a ceviche and he would take a jar of ceviche mixture with him fishing and try catch one to fillet for lunch to have on the rocks while fishing..But give me a shad anyday..bled and ike jime of course too..sashimi that shad!
