Im new to this freshwater fishing thing and would like to find out about dams that is not to difficult to fish around Benoni area. I live close to Homestead, but no luck yet. Been to Vaal dan for the firts time and managed 5 small fish a week ago. Any advise will help. Or is there maby any private farm dams one can fish at?

I will say for beginners go watch one or 2 of the supercast DVD's the videos are on youtube and get an idea of bait presentation ignore everything else you see there.
Don't fall into the trap that there is a magic dip that catches fish pick a few dips with strong flavors eg. garlic, tcp, spirits. Then a couple of sweet ones caramel pineapple banana ex. in the winter people tend to use a bit stronger flavors and in summer more the sweeter stuff.
Buy the best and freshest mielie bom you can.
Now in winter the fishing is usually a bit harder and the fish are usually deeper so have patience.
For fishing spots I will say go and give bronkies a try its an easy venue most of the time and its safe and cheap.
Else find someone to fish with it will be the best to learn from them.
