Hi

Does anyone have experience of the fish finder? Will it be good for sea fishing? Are there any fishfinders that are also good ?::slr::

The question:Is it of THE.... or..... A fishfinder?

A fishfinder on the Kayak works well..Gives depths, water temp and structure...Find fish ..yes in a certain way depending on the model of the finder...
The entry level finders like Lowrance Hook 3 or Garmin Striker works well on a Kayak/Hook 4 has got GPS as well
Battery can last up to 12 hours and if the pins are well cleaned and sprayed with Spark or similar it can last a couple of years

I have a Garmin Striker -it seems that they all come with the GPS combo now? Most brands last for warrantee period plus one day :) then die! In the past the main failing was the power cable and corrosion setting in meaning that you would have to replace the whole transducer -but now you can purchase the power cable separate.

Once you use a FF you will find it indispensable as you can pick up structure and where the fish are sitting in the water in relation to the bottom and structure.

A down side of the Garmin on a fishing ski is that water/ condensation seems to affect the screen as the day progresses and also with the new colour screens it's a bit harder to see in full sun. But the benefits of having a FF far out-weigh the hassles. Its a wet out door sport so it comes with the territory?!

We have the bigger striker for the boat and its great, this one you posted has quickdraw which would be lekker to have..Should be perfect for kayak, you want a little fish finder (dont really find fish with it haha) that takes little space and does not chow your battery. Looks right, with bonus features and color screen. My skipper has caught more big fish off a kayak with no finder just knowing the marks and his stuff, than I have caught on land, boat and kayak added together times ten..so it is relative..sure it will do. :)

On a sidenote, we had the first striker sold in SA I think, were waiting for it for ages and was just luck as we were waiting for new finder to replace an old one that bombed out like day before warrenty ended, when they got released. We were given the striker to replace that one under guarantee after putting a little to cover the difference in price I think.. It bombed out soon after install (was the promo unit) and we were given a new one immediately with no questions which has lasted just fine since then for 2 seasons, thanks, Garmin and Commercial marine for good service. So ja even if your garmin bombs, they stand by their product. I have a handheld garmin that had bluecharts loaded on it, that has been to sea too many times for a few years and it like brand new.
