Rigging Skirted trolling lures

Hi Guys

I wonder if some of you can give me some advice. We go out and traget a wide range when trolling. I always use mono for my leader on my lure rigs but had a run in with a nice wahoo that chewed of my 200lb leader. Now lets face it lures are expensive so I am not a big fan of loosing them. I want to know if a cable leader will work as we target Sailfish, Marlin, Tuna and Dorado.

Unless you set up and target Dorado + Sailfish (ONLY) - no real need to bother with wire, however going for the toothy critters like Cuta / Barracuda ect you should think about adding 15cm to 20cm of wire, either to the leader + strong clip or add the wire to the the actual lure...

Anyway it depends where the hook sets, now you have mentioned an important point, lures are costly....LOL... so to avoid losing them on toothies, add some wire.

We do not aim for the toothy ones but they still suprise you. Will the steel leader affect the bite of Dorado or Sailfish?
