saltwater spinning combo

Hi moffet
There are two possible types of setups for saltwater spinning:
1) for estuary fishing
2) for spinning in the surf/from rocks
For each of options 1) and 2) there are lots of variables to consider before purchasing your combo.
Indicating which option you are interested in would be a good starting point to get assistance from the guys.

want to buy myself a spinning rod and reel.
would like some advise to what rod and reel I should consider and why.
I'm quite new to salt water fishing and not sure where to start.

What is your budget for the combo? What are you going to target and where do you fish? I fish the KZN North Coast when I get the chance and use a Shimano Stradic 4000 (but would recommend the 5000) paired with an 11ft Loomis Archipelago.
