Hi Guys,

I am going to Hentiesbay this December, I tried to search for the correct rig for catching Bronzies but with no success. Can anyone please help. It will be my first attempt, so any advice on tackle, rig and bait would be appreciated, photos would be nice to. I use a Shimano Beastmaster and Torium 30, I want to fill the reel with braid backing, what lb would you suggest as well as the main line diameter on top?

I'm sure there is a shark trace some where on this site.

50 lb. backing braid ( learn the FG knot)
0.45 or 0.5 main line (depends if you fishing a rocky area)
1 mm thick leader
10 over J hook is good enough( Friends that fished in Namibia says the bronzies don't work so well with circles that side but you welcome to try it)

there are various shark traces -
use a 3 way swivel with at least 70 cm of 120 to 150 lb. steel trace with a nice dangle for bait presentation.

200lb steel and power swivels, I won't use a 3 way swivel it will get smashed and rather go for 0.55mm main line. You can also use a slide rig but if you have never done it may be best to cast your bait. Circles work like a bomb in Cape Town for bronzies, they may work in Namibia to, just remember not to strike, just tighten up and lean back

Dis nogal 'n gewilde strop hier in Valsbaai. Jy maak jou staal so 80cm na 1m. 'n lang drop gooi in elk geval verder.

Hi Chris, I am not sure where the good spots are for Bronzies. We shall be fishing for Kabeljou mostly, so we will try out all the major spots, I shall try every now and then if it gets to quit
