Son Fishing

Hi Guys, can someone pleas advise where on the Vaal River would be best for me to take my 10year old son for a Day Fishing. I would like it for him to experience whats it like to catch a fish and the best bait to use. I live in Lenasia even close to Lenasia would be fine. Thanks in advance.

For the Vaal river try Nonyana or Oosthuizen's, both about 45 min from Lenasia.

But I think for younger kids, the vaal dam is better. The river can be a bit difficult sometimes and fishing can be slow. At the dam, even if your kid is only casting 30-40m he will catch something. Just try dough, worms or floaties on a small hook, with some sweet dip on the mieliebom and he is bound to catch. Boschkop or a place closer to there will get you some fish. If you willing to drive much much further, and go through a loooooong gravel road, tago is also worth it.

Take him to Trout Hunters, Just past Randfontein and much closer to Lens, only bait to use is white or brown bread on a barbless hook. best place for laaities to get hooked on fishing.
