World Fly Fishing Championship 2017 Slovakia

The Competition starts 7 September 2017

Slovakia was showing off today with the Poprad firing on all cylinders! We drove into town to pick up our licenses and had a look at the comp water at the same time. It looks very cool with a weir every 100m or so and some mini weirs in between. Pretty shallow and flat throughout but the weirs have deep sections behind them. Saw some BIG stocked rainbows (2kg+ range) in the holes as well as some schools of greyling.

We started off on the upper practice water which was FULL of browns eating anything and everything we threw at them. Very small river with tight cover requiring bow and arrow casts through the trees. Had a fun morning with between 20 to 60 fish per person for the 3 hour session.

We decided that the upper practice water was so different to the comp water that we would move below the town and find some similar greyling water... and WOW did we come right! We think the team caught between 400-500 fish in a 3 hour session between the 7 of us and all good sized greyling with the odd chub thrown in. ABSOLUTE CARNGE is the only way to describe it!

We are now shattered but the boys are already back on the vices restocking the boxes. We were planning on an early night but Jiri arrives at 10 and we have a wild bore leg in the oven that Jacques shot, which will take around 2 hours. 🤤
