I was driving through modderfontein and noticed a couple of small ponds and a bigger one that seem to be connected by a small river, Im not talking about the dam inside the reserve at modderfontein, what I would like to know is if there are bass in these dams at all, and if people are permitted to fish there?

Hi ETS05,

Not too sure about the bass but, I used to fish those ponds a few years back, lots of carp, koi-carp and barble in the bigger dam, fished there a few times only once security asked me not to fish for my own health risk, they said the water was polluted by mining... have even caught small barble in that small stream under the bridge on earthworms.

regards

J

If you are talking about the one just by the Shell, then apparently no fishing is permitted. The local residents called security to escort us off the premises the last time we were fishing there. Managed 1 small carp before they were called though...

Yes, for the Reserve you need to contact the EWT management team with at least a week's notice to book a day permit. They only allow fishing from Wednesday to Saturday.
