Tigernuts, I must be doing something wrong

I am soaking my tigernuts for 36 hours, but they have not swollen up at all. Now I've read they can swell up 2 to 3 times their original size. Why are mine not swelling up?
It is because I do not use plain water? I am adding the flavors I want them to be in the water, reasoning they will be drawn into the nuts. I have them soaked in Almond flavored water but they have not swollen even half a mm:X

Tigernuts do not swell up very much,soaking just rehydrates them.When you cook them,they will swell up a little more.

Sorry I forgot to ask, when I boil them will the boiling process make them loose their flavor I soaked them in?

just my point of view
i boil all my tigers plain no flavours
then select a few nice ones and keep them in a small container with your chosen flavour
also try to skin some of them
just my 2 scents

How long do they last like this? Is it kept in a fridge or in a freezer? I want to keep mine in a freezer.

i have mine now nearly a year and no problem
sure they will be fine if you keep them in the freezer
i just prefer it this way because then you have options between normal and flavoured tigers and not all one flavour
couple of videos on you tube and articles on the korda page that can help you with some ideas

Last question about this:cool:
What is achieved by the cooking process? To make the nuts softer?
I have some tigers soaked now for 4 days, much longer than the recommended period, as I've read some guys do this.
Now the nuts have swelled up nicely with absolutely no wrinkles. Since they have swollen up so nicely, is it still a requirement to let them boil for 30 minutes?

es you do have to boil them i think it has something to do with enzymes in the bait but best to read up on it i will see if i can find something about that and send it to you_seal1_

Soak tigers in plain water for 24 hours, Then boil for 45-60 mins. They will swell a lot!
I then put a few select ones in a jar with my sousie e.g. corn extract.
I find that the tigers start shrinking again after a day if not in a fluid. So I believe best to boil your tigers just before your use.

i soak for 48 hours and boil for around 40min.

Add flavours after. a few tigers in a chosen flavour etc.

I keep them in airtight glass jars/bottels. I Have a batch that is in my storage box in the garage, it is going on 8 odd years old now. still fresh and no smell. some say they must be fresh, some say they must have frenzied, ie have snot. being reading a lot of articles lately, last 3 odd weeks. Total line down the middle on this one.

I just wanted to start a new thread, but it seems this post already answered me.
I want to put 10 or so tigers after preparing them, in a glass jar in the fridge, not in the freezer to not freeze them. My question would have been how long would they last if fill the jar to the brim with for example supercasts caramel dip. But if your's last 8 years I suppose it is safe to assume mine can last at least 6 months.
I do not feed tigers, only use them for hook bait.

Been watching the thread...
Guys soaking their hookbaits in sugar based soak didnt have them going rock hard?

We used Pistachio oil with great success.Oil based soaks also preserve better...
