Morning everyone,

I'm a new member on Sealine. Would just like to say hello and looking forward to chatting with you.

Staying in Pretoria all my life, and enjoy freshwater fishing "papgooi". But  I enjoy all forms of fishing also. Can't wait to go down to the coast in July and doing some R&S.

Have a great day!

Welcome Marsman,

I will give you the first bit of advice. Salt water destroys everything it touches. So practice good tackle maintenance after every fishing session at the coast.

Morning Cobia,

Sorry for the late response - running around a bit.

Going to Margate mid July.

I'm sorting with rigs, lures, baits etc...

Thank you for the offer though! _seal1_

Target the Leeries during the day.

Sometimes the Shad only feed at nigh. Make sure if this is the pattern then fish for them in the dark, when first light arrives get those livies in the water. Sliding non return clip, two single hooks.

If you are going to keep a few Shad for livies make sure they have swimming space, 40 cm deep water is ample. Those little blow up kiddies pools work lekka for the beach, just be careful on the rocks.

Make some Shad traces , Make some Leerie traces, this trace will also catch you a Kob, Prodical Son, Tuna, Will only be suitable for a Cuta if nylon coated wire is used.

I will do a couple of sketches for you on how I do it. I keep it plain simple and effective. No need to complicate things.

To the right of the Pier is Lee Rock, Awesome spot.

It's not easy to land fish in the area. Don't rush things don't get too excited. Locals can be sticky. Just gain there liking for you and you will be ok. They will help where they can.

Leerfish... ;)

I fish for the sport / not for the pot.

Although I would love to braai a shad or two over the coles for the kids to try just ones. Nothing beats the taste of a fresh fillet on the braai.

But yes, one must think of the future...

Hi Marsman, hope you will be able to figure out how to do the knot I have explained. Very important, best for breaking strains 18kg upwards. Leeries have sandpaper like teeth and you will also be fishing a rocky area. Make sure your leader and trace suit the fish and the terrain.

Always wet knots before tightening up.

Pin hooks as illustrated.

5/0 min for a Leerie.

Quite often the hooks normally end up in the throat of the fish. It's the way they feed

With plugs and spoons normally the mouth area.

If you are going to release, try to remove all hooks as carefully as possible.
