I lived in Melbourne for 3 years and i was lucky enough to have access to Lake Eppalock. When the lake was at capacity, apparently it held about as much water as Sydney harbour. Some days I walked a good 15 km along the shores, just sight fishing for carp. The fish were all in pristine condition, ready to put up a good fight. The only down side however was that (by law), you have to kill the carp since it is an invasive species.
I spent a lot of summer days sight fishing for carp which made it one of my all time favorite fresh water species to target on fly.
Check out the Facebook group called Kangaroo Carp.
