I only recently perfected the bimini myself but what i found is that the more twists you put in the more spring it has in the knot..I know of some like my buddy Shaun who say otherwise,He say's that the more twists you put in the biggger the knot is on your reel,I do agree but i prefer to have more sping in my knots....

Shaun is a whizz at tying these knots as well as Jonah they both showedd me different methods and i just added my 2 cents to their methods.I think the idea behind the length of the plat is that the longer it is you have a better chance of the leader breaking and then with a little bit of luck the Bimini stay's so all you have to do is retie the leader and trim the excess plats away...I do know this is not always the case but if you tie a longer Bimini thus giving you the extra spring im sure you find that inn most cases the leader snaps and you are then left with your bimini which you can add your leader to..

Just a personal preference though not hard and fast rules....

hey darren

the length from the start of your spring to the leader knot(your 3 strands to your leader) should be the diameter of your spool topped up.hope you got that.

this shorter length enables better casting.

Hi

I find that tying the Leader and Bimini with the figure 8 knots pass through the eyes of the rod a lot easier the closer the figure 8 is tied to the actual twist knot. . leave enough double or triple line to still act as a shock absorber though.

I prefer the original end off knot on the twist as per the diagram as there is less knot size with just the loop being tied to the leader. Geoff wilsons books also says to stretch the bimini a couple of times before trimming and tying to the leader to settle the twists . Tye the leader first to the bimini to ensure even lenghts on the double lines

I prefer to use all three strands with a fig8 knot to my leader. After i have finished the bimini i will snip the three strands to equal lengths and remove the twists. When making the fig8 knot you must ensure the line is kept tight from your bimini so that all three strands knot equally (avoid a loop in one strand). a comfortable length for me is about 100mm from the bimini.

just practice the knot
