Awesome report boet..Nice fish as well..epic.

On that griek, I never see the insides of a big one nor get to weigh them, keeping only one in a few years which was gill hooked and a young fish also, but anyway, purely out of interest, was the big creature a male or female, did you check ovaries and also did you get a length measure (fork length) on it?

Shot again for your posts..lekker let me know..very curious.

yip we did inspect the fish.

it was found to be a female.
she has 2x bags of eggs.
I was quite surprised about the size of the bags.
they are quite small compared to a salmon of the same size.
they were full of eggs too, thus she did not have time to spawn.
did not measure her length, fork length should have been around 112,5 cm

hope this helps

It does for sure..thanks boet..

My biggest griek on plug was post spawn in January in the Eastern Cape.. Thin, skraal belly, but a huge fish, 145cm fork length (with witnesses LOL) but estimated to weigh only about 14 kgs at most..It just goes to show how the fish fatten up for the spawn and put on oil mass and egg mass, all while going up north to spawn..And then we see the same fish in summer again after more than a 1000k swim south to their summer range, and after the long dash back, she will be lean and skraal again..but on the chow and honger vir plug! I wonder what my PB would have weighed up by you, My mates dad reckoned she would be a 20/21kg.. I'm going to start leaving number plates in them so you guys know which ones to send back home..;) I love the leeries..the are the gentlemen of the sea, unless you are a baitfish! You can play them on light tackle as they don't like to cut you off, though the big ones ja they are dirtier fighters..when they are wild there is nothing like it, they way they light up and talk to each other in the hunt with their silver and black colors..Like GT's do..but more so..I love em..Getting less and less and less though..

But ja no shot, epic report mate..Good fishes!
