Well its all vacuum packed, 4x bags for my family and 4x for Pieter.
So we will try it out and see how they taste.
too big and they tend to taste like.....rather no comment.

Where's the leerie?
still feeding on his shad with his knife and fork!!!!

But don't worry, I have some plans how to get them hooked.

the biggest secret is that you as a angler needs to evolve in how you do things.

some days they feed like pigs!!!
other days they just play with their food.

the 1 flat day a lure angler got 1 leerie next to our rods.
he was using a assassin and stradic.
when the leerie was on the beech It spat out a whole maasbunker of about 25cm

I had a look at it and the mozzie was still very fresh. so clearly he did have breakfast earlier in the morning.

I tend to miss quite plenty of pulls on the heavy gear.
the 400/4/5 don't indicate them bites especially when the Garrick are feeding very shy.
well I have news for them.

early morning I will target them with lighter gear and in the afternoon I will target the kingies with the heavy gear.

they are done currently with dumping sand into the sea.
they are still removing shrubs and trees from the existing dunes. burning them.

also note that the new entrance to the beech is at ingwe.
the old toilets and tar road and parking area are going to be demolished.

so only ingwe, jabula and swimming beach will remain. thus a extra 350 meters walk added if you wanted to visit maphelane.

Thanks for the great report Willem, did you use steel on the trace that Pieter got the GT on? That's a hell of a first GT to get from the beach

Thanks julle.

Yip a very nice trip indeed.

Nope, no steel, just normal sportex 1,1mm mono line... the pink one.

with 2x grip hooks in a 5 o size

I must add.
spies from Standerton got a Garrick on a dead shad.
he used 150lb carbon coated steel.
Garrick was hooked in the mouth and side.
the steel broke between the hooks.
lucky for him he landed the Garrick with the hook in its side.

piano wire might be the answer on some applications

st lucia trip 4-9 September 2017

no much happened during the week.
Apart from catching sharks and a honey comb.

Shad is still scares like hen's teeth!!!!

edibles were far away clearly.

Uncle tiger, a local from st lucia managed a nice GT of 101 ck fork length.

according to weight calculator, 20kg.

It was safely released.

apart from that, nothing else

I was fishing maphelane with my trolley and managed to pull a calf muscle.......

at least had 5 pulls for the morning on my allotted 4 shad.

was a bugger getting back to St lucia, it only took me about 2 hours walking back.....

this shad was taken but dropped.

I did slide it back in..... it was again picked up but dropped.

eish, sekere weer n mes en vurk vis

so went down for a quick session.....

armed with 2x dead shads and some mackerels.

there was some grass in the water apart from the sea being very big!!!!

surprisingly the water had no current........

Like clock work..... as expected I had the first pull just before 15:00.

seems like the fish missed it.

so slid the same shad out again.

time went by and eventually after the tide started pulling back I managed another pull.

short fight of about 15 minutes on a purglass 400/ 3
daiwa saltiest 40h and 0,50mm king fisher giant abrasion I managed to land this Geet!!!

I was again a bit disappointed with the fight....maybe I expect too much at times.....or my first kingie which was 28 kg, really bullied me that day.

my biggest geet of 137,7cm also bullied me!!!

Uncle Tigers geet also took him far over the back line where it started cooling off.

This geet took about 60 meters on its first run on a light drag.
it was really unhappy with what was in its mouth..... a nice grip 7/o stainless steel hook.

but the day will come again, when im bullied.....again

Last trip for me coming up on Thursday 28 September.

;Lets see what is waiting for me....

until then, tight lines every one!!!
