Hi guys.

I'm looking for a budget but descent quality spinning reel that would work well with a 7' rod. I'm mostly going to use it for estuary fishing.

I've been looking at the Shimano FX 3500 or 4000 (R299) and the Daiwa Sweepfire 3000 or 4000 (R399), but I can't decide between the two.
Can someone maybe give me some other recommendations or your views on these two reels. (there's not a lot of info on here about these reels at all)

Go with a cheap shimano, but spend a little more money.. Rinse after every fish and service professionally every now and again and you'll have happy fishing in the estaury. My opinion.

DO NOT BUY THE SHIMANO FX OR DAIWA SWEEPFIRE...YOU WILL BE SORRY AS THEY ARE RUBBISH!!!

GO MINIMUM - SHIMANO SIENNA! _seal1_

Shimano 4000 Slade - not sure if they discontinued. Mine going now for 10 years + Now using it for barbell fishing

the problem is that both reels mentioned has only 2x bearings.
they use plastic bushes.
these do wear out quickly and then the clearance between main gear and pinion gear is off.

then all goes pear shape from there.
get a reel with at least 4x bearings + 1 x anti reverse.

that will give you
1x bearing on the roller.
1x bearing on the pinion gear shaft
1x anti reverse bearing
2x bearings in the casing for the main gear, handle.

that would be my minimum.

in the old days guys would buy the fx reels and change the bushes with bearings.
but you need arrb bearings which will last.
