Good Day Fellow Anglers,

Can we start a thread with everyday tips relating to angling and everything associated with angling in which we can share our tips on what we can do to make our angling experience more enjoyable and easier?  Here I am not just talking bait and what will attract the fish, I am talking anything in the line of bait, tactics, maintenance of your angling gear, camping, safety whilst angling, and so the list can go on....
Imagine a trip and everything that you would normally take with and do to make it easier for yourself and everybody going with you. There is probably a lot you do and as time has gone by you take for granted and would not think of as something you could share with others as being an effort and time saver, please consider sharing these with us.
To start off with I want to share one regarding the maintenance of your rods - if you have rods that are looking shabby and you need to get some sparkle back into them then consider polishing them with liquid car wax polish.  Here I am talking one you would rub on and let it dry for a couple of minutes and the rub off the powder residue.  You will be amazed to see what it does to those old dull  rods!   I also do this on a regular basis with my reels, it requires a lot more fidgeting to get in all over on the reels but the end result is worth it.
I look forward to heariing from our Sealiners _seal1_

Hey Wannabee, I gave this post sometime to actually see what some of the guys would post but seems people are busy or something. I do however have a question if you or anyone can shed some light on. Its basically to do with the traces, hooks, scissors and pliers???? Like what do the guys do to protect them from rusting etc... trust me ive gone through more pliers than I can count lol which is why I just settled for an aluminium one. As for protecting hooks and traces and keeping them sharp and looking good as new, I need some advice on that. I have heard of guys using rice and even cake flour to absorb the moisture out and stuff but not sure if it does work. But good post bru, shot for the waxing tip, will definately give that a go((goodp_::tight:((goodp_

Hi Student

A tip I picked up somewhere to keep hooks ect from rusting is to add a bunch of those silicon sachets you find in shoe boxes/pill bottles to the compartments in your tackle box. Been working great for me. But I always rinse and dry any hooks that came into contact with salt before packing away too.

Another tip that has been working for me is to use elastic rubber band on spools of line to stop the line from running off the spool.

Also something that might be usefull for the Cape Town area sealiner is to pay Mambos next to Somerset Sport (close to Somerset Mall) a visit. They have great prices on things like zip lock bags, plastic containers and small bottles which is perfect for things like traces, bait storage and decanting sunscreen (so you dont have to carry the whole big bottle). Last I bought 100 zip lock trace bags for R14.

Ook as ou ver stap langs see....ek vat maar altyd twee stokke....gewone stukkie broekrek of velcro strappie.....as twee stokke langs mekaar is maak hul punte (tips) aan mekaar vas....dan dra jy jou twee stokke gemaklik oor die skouer...anders dra ou ongemaklik ......wil nie twee stokke dra wat kort kort hiernatoe en daarnatoe beweeg soos jy klim en klouter....

I'm not a fan of candles in tight spaces ;)
I always have a spare set of rechargable AAA's in the car and a spare headlamp..As well a spare 5L of water in the back in a coolerbox out the sun for the dogs..If its dark, put a koplamp on, if you need a spacelight, put the strap of the koplamp around the 5L milky white plastic (HDPE #2 recycle - won't slowly poison you like PET plastic)..ja put the lamp facing the bottle water, held in place with its head strap and it will light a whole space/back of bakkie/tent etc..and no danger of fire of the ou's want to get dronk.
