Fishing Spots of a 50km radius of Randburg

Hi Guys

Im a newbie to JHB and Im currently residing in Randburg. I am a serious saltwater angler and going down to durbs 5 time a year isn't good enough for me considering I fished 3 times a week. I recently got into fresh water angling due to my situation and I wanted to know of any spots to try to catch the following fish in my description. Also I want to know if Emmerentiia dam is legal to fish as well as the small pond behind brightwaters as well as the small dam on Beyes Naude which I heard is called Givannis dam.

howzit TMM,i too stay in randburg and my following news might not be good news but if the bug bites then go for it. there is only a hand full of tiny to small dams in our area and they all have had a fair share of bad incidents. its a real shame because it was my quick fix when the fish bug bite. to my knowledge florida dam is the only dam where you'll need permission from a club to fish, all the other dams have no restrictions. haven that said, i would consider extending the distance to 120kms. some places like harties, buffels, roodeplaat, roodekoppies, vaal river, vaal dam, boskop, bronkies are within 50 to 120km away and that's where i spend my fishing time.
what are your preferred fishing facets? (fly, bait, lure)

I like lure fishing and bait for barbel and kurper. Do you have any idea about emmerentia dam?

Hey Bassbug, by bad incidents do you mean safety?

emmerentia has barble, carp and bass. very few spots available for fishing, mostly you'll find locals hogging the gaps between reeds. bassing is mostly done at the entrance to the gardens carpark and along the rip rap (road bridge). emmarentia is pretty safe and if not the safest dam around, just look out for the rodents when carping, theywill sneak into your baits.

the incidents i have mentioned are related to safety, fisherman, joggers and other visitors have been robbed of there possessions and cars broken into. some incidents has happened at knife point.

do you have a boat, kickboat or kayak to fish off?

you welcome TMM, i'm guessing you dont have a floatation device to fish off so joinning us on the water is a bit difficult, if that is the case you are welcome to join me fly fishing the vaal this new season. here we wade throw the river and have an absolute blast on fly tackle, what you say mate?
