Awesome fishing stefan! Awesome write-up and photos, I am just in awe at what you guys experienced..It also makes me wonder what our fisheries could/should be like?

Sorry for any hijack, but this is what I was reading recently and by all accounts the hangklip to struisbaai fishery should have been pretty similar in the old days and could be in the future, catches a decade or 2 ago being a mere percent or two of traditional catches and some species now absent from the shore completely. Makes me wonder..

C. G. Attwood & M. Farquhar (1999) Collapse of linefish stocks betweenCape Hangklip and Walker Bay, South Africa, South African Journal of Marine Science

Everyone gets so protective of their fish, there are few willing to post reports and i can understand why. If fish stocks were anything near what they should be, there would be so many fish that it could support a recreational industry ten times the size and we would not dent the stocks. If we cultured the right attitude amongst ourselves to get the stocks there, the same attitude would create sustainable harvesting of the stocks and our kids and their kids would never go hungry or get bored. Chickens and eggs.. Anyway bla bla..

Epic report and epic fishing..Angola is now on the bucketlist for sure. Also have you got any more information on that pink cracker?

Have read the article and used it. It's really disappointing that we will never experience fishing in its pristine condition.

Angola is also showing signs of fishing pressure. Locals coming with freezers and filling them over a weekend around the Kunene. South of Flamingo every Bay has a Gill net.

Pink musselcracker only occurs there. It's a bloody rare catch. Spyker hasn't even caught one yet. Only goes up to about 8kg. Saw one in the shoprite in Namibe. I will go back just to catch one

It is. Haha. My aunt tried to save my old one but three days of storms during the Rasspl Nationals stuffed it up again.

The new lucky hat will hopefully be as good as the old one
