Darraaz was this at Klaserie main dam, not that caravan park pond? Reason I'm asking is that I've heard rumours that the big dam is closed for fishing but is does sound like a nonsense story!

Beautiful kurper.(ni(ce(fish)(

Hi Hennie,

Yes, this was caught at the Klaserie main dam, fishing is open, there are some lovely redbreast Kurpers to be caught but among many other smallies. Seems like the Kurper population doing well there in the absence of Bass, or atleast have not seen or caught any.

I have not been to Vaalkop this year yet but was there about a year ago and caught little ones from the side.  The problem with Vaalkop and Klipvoor is that no boats are allowed so you have to find the best spots from the side, but the kurpers are there.  Loskopdam and Arabiedam are definitely my favourite places to go for kurper and you can go by boat, I have caught nice kurpers from the side last year at Arabiedam as well.  I see Vaalkop is very low so your chances of catching them wil be easier but like I said there is only so much space from the side and you have to find the right area to have a chance (maybe it will be easier now because of the lower waterlevels).  Your other bet would be to go to Klein Paradys outside Brits I have caught some big Blue kurpers there before.

Here is a picture of a kurper that I caught a couple of years ago at Klein Paradys.

If there is anything else do not hesitate to ask.

What a Beaut MAN!!! Now thats what you call a solid duk lippe!! ;);););););)

(ni(ce(fish)(

Nowadays they so hard to come by... Eish

Used to catch them at Molatedi Dam and in the Madikwe river before it was declared a game reserve..

Thank You too for the detailed info, much appreciated Bucci!!

The bank angling actually suits me better for now, as I don not have a boat as yet.. and agree you have listed amongst the best places to hook dem up"

I called Arabie Dam last week and spoke to a Lady called Linda (0828061560)
She is very helpful and clued up with the status of dam, water level etc..
The water levels are still very low, and difficult to fish from the banks because of the water grass at the moment.

I have only fished once from Vaalkop, that time from the dam wall, we caught some lovely blues there, will scan the pics!! lol

We have a planned trip with Black Pearl fishing Charters for end of April to Loskop,
Isabel (0822613247)

We also considering doing Abba Game Lodge soon, they have nice Kurper there too..

Will post our trip reports and hope this helps the Duk Lippe Hunters!!

Cheers

It is a pleasure darraaz yes if you have nice pics to share please do love to look at photos of beautiful kurpers.  Unfortunately they are becoming scarce because of a variety of reasons as mentioned before, but with a little bit of hard work and patience you will still be able to find them.  We must just look after them like gold.

Please keep us posted

Thank You Bucci, your assistance is much appreciated!!

What would you say is a better option for bank anglers targeting Kurper between Loskop and Klipvoor?

Dankie Bro!!

Loskop Dam is certainly one of the best venues to try your hand on Kurper but what makes this venue even more special is that you are surrounded by the most breath taking scenery with wild animals on the waters edge!!

As promised feedback of our recent trip, I felt I should write here as this is where Bucci and others were instrumental in sharing advice. Thank You, and is about Kurpers!!

;)

The report is brief as I have included a Youtube video that sums up our catch and experience.

We were four of us including my son, a good and kind friend borrowed us his boat, we left on Friday 2nd March and returned on Sunday Afternoon. We stayed at the MTB's newly renovated Hippo Chalet which was very comfortable and practical as we could launch the boat almost right in front of the chalet.

The first afternoon on Friday we went straight to the cable area and fished in depth of between 1,5 to 2 meters of water, caught many smallies but nothing big, on our way back we tried out the mouth at Lamberts Bay, the waters seemed to hold better sizes and caught a few nice red breast with one 3 spot weighing 800grms.

The rest of the days followed trying out different spots, the best though were those on the southern side of the cable area and the water inlets around Lamberts Bay. Most of the fished were released and a few made it to the pan!! :-) freshly prepared and braaied at the dam.

Here is the link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrnN2GaYbEM

Cheers
