Hi all

I have looked on SAMSA's website and cannot find the answer to below question.

I have been trying to find out if there is a time period after which a buoyancy certificate expires and if so if one redoes it does one have to cut inspection hatches into the boat or would the person issuing the new certificate use the old expired certificate as reference ?
Thanks
Des.

certificate is valid for 5 years from date of issue.
yes then inspection holes will assist.
we hear about water logged foam constantly. so its more precaution.

the issuer of the certificate would need to inspect the vessel after expiry and then if he is happy, issue another one which will be valid for another 5 years.

I had a cert that just expired and applied to Yamaha for a new inspection & cert this month December 2015. I supplied the weighbridge documents and was issued with a real detailed cert displaying pics, calculations and conformations.

In Bold is displayed that this cert will remain valid for the life of the vessel providing that the minimum weight does not increase by more than 25kg or that any alterations are not done to the vessel.

So I used to think that it was 5 yearly but quite obviously the regulatory compliance says differently.

Hi Foxhat can you expand more here . why to Yamaha as indicated your boat has Honda motors etc. Is the Yamaha you refer to a manufacturer and did they do an internal inspection etc. Very interested as mine expires during next year. Have a Seacat with 50 Honda motors

Honda did not have the certification to do it and lined it up for me at Durban Yamaha. I believe they all buddies. I supplied recent weighbridge certificate, boat with inspection hatches, photographs of side of boat displaying numbers etc, photographs of open inspection hatches displaying internal foam & the old buoyancy certificate. Photographs are supplied via E-mail so I imagine they are electronically filed for evaluation if required. The following picture is displayed on the certificate
