From here on he controlled the fish and after about 25 minutes he had the barbel in the very shallow water about 15 metres from the bank. I explained to him that this is where hearts and lines normally get broken and he patiently coaxed the barbel into the landing net aided by Dominique who then took the photos.

The end result was a spectacular and very special catfish. It was milky white with pink on its fins – some sort of albino I’m sure. The fish was in a good condition and nice and fat. It only had one minor of its long whiskers was

missing...We weighed it in a Carp weigh bag and the result...15.2kg :wfish
